Airborne Artillery

Post by KWG »

Just something to think about...

It would be AIRBORNE! if para/glider artillery could be attached to airborne units or hav a droppable HQ for airborne troops. There are only 2 para artillery in the game and its minor... but.. you could add more airborne artillery, engineers etc.

Trying to get my airborne arty in a southern France drop and then i realized how arty is attached to HQ. I have thought about the droppable airborne HQs before.

The parachute artillery battalions appear as assets in the 101st and 82d Abn divisions with their 75mm pak howitzers. I don't see the two glider artillery regiments but I didn't look hard for them. They had 105s and landed by glider on D-Day. Are those the two you found?

The 320th Glider Field Artillery Battalion is one of them. I served in the later day 1st Bn/320th Airborne Field Artillery with M102 105mm howitzers. We were direct support to the 321 Abn infantry which was the glider infantry way back when. The more things change the more they stay the same :-) Volens et Potens (Willing and Able)

yes it seems most airborne arty and all airborne engineers are internal to the unit. There are 2

463th US Parachute Artillery Battalion (Aug 44)
464th US Parachute Artillery Battalion (2/24/45)

i wrote para/glider to cover all bases. I havnt seen any British independant airborne arty.
Gliders - Which is crazier, jumping out of a perfectly good airplane or staying in one that isnt.

I just did the insignia for the two so I though of bringing this question up.
