Time to play the AI?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Time to play the AI?

Post by STEF78 »

Nothing can be as unpredictable than a human player... but they have a major default: half of them disappears of gives up before the end of 1941. And I don't count the cheating.

So what would be the best settings to get a challenging game as german or russian player against the AI?

Should be players willing to start up again once the patch hits....pretty sure quite a few are waiting right now.

Against the AI- +10-15 seems to be decently challenging especially if you start as Germans in 1942/1943 lol.

I have yet to play through the entire game against the AI because i get super tired of waiting for its hour long turns as the game progresses.

When playing as the Soviets against the Axis AI I set the Morale to 130, Fort Level to 120 and the rest to 110.

When playing against the Soviet AI I set the Morale = 110, Fort Level = 120 Logistics = 110 Transport = 110 Admin = 120.

The AI can surprise you at times.

Hi Stef,

So true about slow AI, especially when you get into '42. My machine has an Intel 3.2 processor now and that's plenty fast.

I think, me think!!, maybe we would be compatible players. I have a "maybe" opponent for when .05 comes out. PM me, and I will try the same, not sure if my matrix Pm is working right??

Hi Stef,
have to agree with charlie0311!
I actually lasted to mid 42, where the A1 was well over the hour per move & my Intel is very fast.
I think I was reading a book between moves, so if you wish to preserve take up[>:] a hobby to help pass
the time. [>:]
I was really ready to chuck in the game, but then found 3 players & between them, there is more than
enough stimulation.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.

I played GC against the AI in 2011 and 2012 and even in late war turns, the computer didn't "work" more than 15 minutes.

Maybe AI is more "clever" now....[;)]

And as I have a 5 years old computer playing the AI doesn't suit me.

Playing the 1941 campaign as Soviet against German IA. Difficulty setting 150/100. Edited the scenario to set Axis Production Usage to 255%

By Dec'41 the IA had yeld it's usual mediocre performance. Barely reached Leningrad, fell well short of Moscow, barely took Kiev by frontal assault, and Odessa and it's surroundings remained safe and sound on soviet hands.

However, it was able to stop cold my winter offensive, and has launched a quite successful panzerball 1942 offensive that is forcing me to take maximum advantage of terrain, fortification levels and troop placement.

The hour-long turns after march 1942 are cumbersome (a new feature since the last patches, did not happen before), but my family appreciates the extra time I expend with them. [:D]

(Anyway I prefer to wait hour-long turns and get a challenging IA than having 5 minute turns against a crappy one)

just weed through the player base until you find some good shoes. Took me awhile to weed through the unreliables until I found Oshawott ,and I am real life buds with liquidsky as we have hammered each other in war games for 3 decades or more. I would just say play players and when you find the 20-30% good & reliable ones build a relationship with them. Players are a much better opponent imo.
