Need help to reset settings

Post by jwolf »

I'm playing against the AI and apparently I blundered somehow into changing some game setting. What happens is that near the end of the combat replay, it slows to a crawl with dozens of messages of the type "unit X has moved to hex Y." What do I need to change in order to avoid these messages?

The ground movement phase comes near the end of a turn, just before ground combat.

Ground movement announces every hex of a units movement so for units moving 10 hex along a major rail it does become tedious having each hex of movement announced.

This is especially tedious in eth first month when you likely have lots of units moving by rail.

There are two things you can do to speed this up.

1. decrease the message delay setting
2. Hit the escape key which will cause the entire movement phase to blitz by in a dizzying manner making it difficult to watch any one if.

The escape key can be use to blitz through lots of things but be careful of it as holding it down for any length of time will result in a buffered application of multiple keystrokes potentially blitzing you through more than you wanted.

Message delay is currently 26 -- what do you recommend?

It's highly dependent on your PC. Experiment with it.

Edit to add: mine are set for less than 1 second IIRC.

Holy Moley.

The default message delay is 1 second.

Personally, I up mine to 1.5 seconds because I like to be able to actually read them as they flash on the screen

26 means you sit and stare at each message for 26 seconds!!!!!

No wonder your game is bogging down.

But I know they don't take nearly as long as 26 seconds, so I don't know what is going on. For the time being I'll go with the escape key when it gets to that part of the replay. Funny I don't remember seeing any of that stuff from my PBEM game.

Actually the figure I am remembering as 26 must not be the message delay, but something else on that menu. I'll check it out at home later today.

If you are playing an AI game just go ahead and change the delay settings. You can't screw up anything with them and you can always change them back.

Yeah I think I missed the decimal point (if it's really there??) I reset it to 2.1, might try dropping it some more. I was indeed playing the Allied side in the PBEM. Thanks for the tips.
