Last Bastion - Umm Qatef 1948 - PBEM AAR
Here is an AAR of a game I recently played against a customer.
He chose the Israeli's in an assault against the Egyptian positions at Umm Katef in 1948. Here is the introduction.
Last Bastion - Umm Qatef 1948
27 December, 1948
[Umm Qatef Ridge, Sinai, Egypt]: [SIDE A][HIS][CSL]: After the
successful assault on El Ajua, defeating the Egyptian 1st Battalion,
elements of the Negev Brigade were poised to advance into the
Sinai and capture Abu Ageila which was intended to be used as
a springboard to capture El Arish, the Egyptian primary base
of operations. Forward elements ran into Egyptian positions around
Umm Qatef, a ridge crossing the avenue of approach, losing a
few vehicles to the anti-tank guns on the position. Negev's 7th
Battalion was hastily organized to assault the position as the
morning sun rose. Once this last bastion was cleared, the Sinai
would be open for the taking. [ALL: NOVV]][NONE] [1.00]
The scenario is designed to be played against an Egyptian AI, but I will see what I can do!

Turn 2
Here is the situation. All of my units are fixed at the start of the scenario, but will be released as the game goes forth.
We are only playing with normal Fog of War.
I am watching his approach and going to make a point of causing as many casualities as I can.

I have taken some losses and pulling back the survivors of the units that have been unfixed by direct and indirect fire, but holding onto the key terrain so far.

Turn 4
Unfortunately, the Egyptian infantry aren't very strong and are being easily pushed aside by the determined Israeli assaults. Hill 183.0 is under attack and the ridge just north of it has already fallen.

Turn 5.
Hill 183.0 has fallen and I am attempting to pull back the survivors. The ridge south of Hill 183.0 is still secured, but the infantry is fixed, so are out of combat for now.

Turn 6
I am pulling my mortar platoon back. I have moved my headquarters deep south to stay out of the line of fire. I will position it further east in a turn or two.
I'll have to make a last stand at the 25VP location in the west.

Turn 7
I am making an attempt to sweep up the east side of Hill 183.0 as a distraction while I wait for the rest of my force to become unfixed. It's suicide, but hopefully it will slow him down a bit.

Well, I have managed to secure Hill 183.0, but the platoons advancing north behind the ridge north of Hill 183.0 are being hit hard by the mortars, taking serious lossesand constantly being disrupted.

I've had to pull back my assault north of Hill 183.0 due to my troops being disrupted and taking heavy losses.
The position in the west is about to fall.
