Unit transferred off of CVE leaves an empty fragment behind

Post by Lokasenna »

I noticed this a while back but forgot about it. Here's what happens when I try to transfer Shinyo-1 off of this CVE in a TF but in a base hex to the base that's in that hex.

Note that this is one of those weird unit arrivals that I posted about some months ago. Some of these "CVE groups" were in my unit arrival queue and set to arrive on the CVEs themselves, but the CVEs were already sunk. Those units arrived at Tokyo. This one didn't... it showed up on the CVE.

After:

It left an empty fragment behind on the CVE that I can't do anything with. Can't transfer it, can't disband it... basically it's stuck on the CVE.

I can transfer Shinyo-2 off, but as you can see that's not exactly something I want to do. I could change Shinyo-1 to be the same pilots, same size, and same aircraft, but that'll cost me time and supplies. Not a huge deal, but there seems to be something going on here in terms of a bug.

Is the carrier in a TF and the TF docked? That is the key to getting planes that are not ready on and off of a carrier. Basically, it's simulating using a crane at the dock.

In the first pic you have 0 pilots with your planes. Could it be that the planes were moved off by crane but the unit is stuck because the AI can't move the empty unit left behind? Maybe just add two pilots and see if it will move?

The planes need to flown off to the base as the ship can't dock. But the group is set to not get pilots to man the planes[:D].
I ran the turn forward and the fragment gets removed during the turn.

Works fine if I give it 2 new pilots before transferring to base.

OK, cool. So I was missing a step. Thanks.

The reason I was missing that it needed pilots was because I've transferred unit fragments before, planes with no pilots, to the location of the parent unit to recombine them. Which doesn't make sense, but since I could do that I figured I could transfer a full unit without pilots with no problem.

Oh, also - the same fragmentation thing happened when the ship was disbanded in port, IIRC.

All 2 planes were ready, so able to fly (albeit sans pilots...). No docking needed for that.
