Merging units

I know I've seen it somewhere but I cant find it. How do I merge a unit? For example playing the Italian campaign, the US 2nd Armored Division is separated into three Brigades. Ihave all three brigades in the same hex. How do I combine them? Conversely, how would I break a division into either two or three sub units? Thanks.
