Carrier squadrons

Post by boxof9 »

I'm looking for the best way to train carrier based squadrons. I'm assuming that thay will not train while aboard in a base hex. Would it be better to land them ashore to train or train them at sea in friendly waters.

i think they still train, but might be safer to have them at a land airbase like Pearl Harbor training-- lest you forget and leave them on training when they should be CAP protecting your carrier !

Why? Combat operations are hampered by being in a base, but training is OK. I don't recall any problems with my training e.g. onboard disbanded repairing carrier.

I've had no problems w CV units training while ship is in port but they do have greater gains when ship is in a TF at sea. Remember to set unit to 100% & range 0 if only going to train & it's not needed for combat. You can disembark unit to land base & have it train there & transfer some unit in it's place (make sure it's CV trained or it will use up more "space" until it is CV trained (takes 3 mos of being on a CV to become one IIRC)

If you are trying to get a carrier capable unit fully carrier trained, you will have to put them on a carrier until they change status. It usually takes 90 days or so. If you just want to train up pilots for your carrier squadrons, you can train on land with no trouble. When I start getting replacement carrier units, I usually move most if not all those units to land bases, usually in the US any train up replacement pilots for the fleet. It works quite well.

They will train in this mode.
