Just bought it

VR designs has been reinforced with designer Cameron Harris and the result is a revolutionary new operational war game 'Barbarossa' that plays like none other. It blends an advanced counter pushing engine with deep narrative, people management and in-depth semi-randomized decision systems.

Just bought it

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Hi, Despite the fact that I'm not generally attracted by WW2 games (and Eastern front in particular) I purchased the game 2 days ago after reading some very good critics on this forum (hey Wodin, your fault :-) ). The second reason why I purchased it is the role playing aspect and cards system which seem to me original and new for the genre which definitely needed innovation.

And guess what : My first impression is extremely positive ! First, the 300 pages good-looking manual was a great surprise (always felt frustrated with these 70-page manuals). I'm currently reading it and it's clear and well written (as far as I can judge :-))

Second, the game is looking very good. Lovely classical map, counters, plenty of information displayed in good looking windows, etc. I particularly like the units images in the bottom panel. Cards are good looking too. The whole thing is a pure pleasure for the eyes.
Video tutorials are a great way to step in the game.
And last but not least, the scale and difficulty seem both perfectly adapted with a perfect mix between complexity and playability (unlike WiTE which in fact I never managed to play). And the most important, the game seems definitely different from the 100's of already-played WW2 wargames existing on the market.
A new paradigm ?
I will probably have plenty of questions (and maybe even some criticisms) but I wanted to give my first impression and congratulate the devs !
Good jobs guys, looks like a gem !

Well, after a couple of days playing it and still learning (because it's quite an advanced game) I definitely can say that this is by far the best wargame I ever played, period.
A new paradigm: high level strategy and at the same time advanced tactics + management skills required + role playing and, icing on the cake, no overwhelming micromanagement.

Wow, a really impressive game!

Okay, you convinced me to purchase it. I had been a bit worried reading these Forums about crashes etc, but version 1.01? or 2 seems to convinced me it is a must purchase.
