TOtH vs SL
Hi, what is the time scale of the game? Is the parallelism with Squad Leader (a game I was never too fond of) limited to the graphics and the general feeling, or does the game attempt to clone it at least at a certain extent? Help appreciated! [:)]

Tigers on the Hunt was inspired by ASL (not SL), the scale information from the manual:
"Map scale is 40m per hex, time scale is about 2 minutes per turn and unit scale is 1 counter represents Squad/Half-Squad/Crew/Leader, single gun or a single AFV (Armoured Fighting Vehicle)."
RE: TOtH vs SL
Where can I download the manual?
RE: TOtH vs SL
as far as i'm aware there isn't a manual out atm, Peter Fisla has a copy as he's made it[:D][;)]

Wasn't ASL inspired by Squad Leader?[:'(]
I mean it is "advanced" Squad Leader in the title.

Yes it was. With the release of the expansions "Cross of Iron", Crescendo of Doom" and " GI Anvil of Victory" the rules had changed that much it needed to be reworked. So SL is the base for ASL.

RE: TOtH vs SL
Squad Leader and Cross of Iron were the best of the series. John Hill the designer of the system quit after Cross of Iron because of were the series was going. The series went to hell after John left.
ASL was basically a totally new game. I bought Squad Leader, Cross of Iron, Crescendo of Doom and GI: Anvil of Victory the moment they hit the local game store. So then we had
four separate rulebooks and with htis contradictory or poorly integrated rules of a game. Then ASL comes out and you have a game (Squad Leader & it's modules) that are useless.
The maps were the only thing that carried over! Take this example. GI: Anvil of Victory had 1568 counters and none of them could be used in ASL [:@]

Agreed. I enjoyed SL and refused to get into ASL. So, back to the original question. Aside from the map and counters we see in the screenshots, what are we getting here - a computer adaptation of the complicated ASL game mechanics or the less-complicated SL game mechanics or something else? Really curious if this game will bring back those old SL memories or be just another frustrating exercise in tactical micro-management.

Game is based on ASL.
My understanding is there is no more tactical micro-management in ASL versus SL; just that the rules in ASL are so complex that you need to be a lawyer to read the rulebook. This game will isolate us from that. But we will still move each unit a hex at a time, etc.

Tough for me to compare SL to ASL rules/ play, since I never played any of all the ASL boxes sitting under my desk [:)]
I do know that Peter was inspired by ASL to make TotH. While beta testing TotH I was transported back to 1977 and
my feeling of playing Squad Leader [:D]
The manual is small and easy to pickup on to play. All the rules/ calculations are built into the game, so you
just play. Click on a unit, pick the LMG and click the hex to shoot at. If you don't have LOS (game shows LOS) it will tell you that you don't have LOS to shot that hex. Depending on the phase it may ask you about ROF. If you can't do something, the game will tell you. [;)]
Does it have every rule of ASL? Again I didn't play ASL and I don't feel I can answer that question.
Do I like the game? Hell yeah I do [&o]

I agree, the game feels very SL like. It took me a few games to get mind mind back into the groove of not trying to kill the enemy by firing at it. This is a game of suppression and move.

This! Well said! This was what any squad based game is. [:D]

Glad you really like this Game Richie! I have not found a WWII PC Squad based game I like better than "Heroes Of Stalingrad" from Mark Walker yet. I am still playing this game to get my ASL fix.

Did you ever play Squad Battles Red Victory?
I was a beta tester for HoS. Ok game. Great port of a board game, but lacks realistic feel as a squad game.

I have most all of the Squad Battle games except "Red Victory".
I was a beta tester for HOS also and still play the game regularly. Love the clean crisp maps and counters are all top notch!

Red Victory is the best SB title bar none. 90 scenarios and LOTS of mods [:)]

How is Red Victory different from Advance Of the Reich & Eagles Strike Squad Battles?
Good looking counters you made!

Red Victory (1943-1945) picks up after AotR and has an updated UI (key board commands), more toys in the form of weapons, units etc.Plus the scenarios were all done by Oz. They play great as solo or PBEM and are all well done. I started with Red Victory and now have all the SB titles, but after RV the older titles lack good scenarios. I love
Eagles Strike and AotR, but there are lots of screwy scoring and designed scenarios IMO.
I love RV, but there is more than enough room for TotH. Even room for HoS and Panzer Commander OST [:D]

I dont know how I missed JT Panzer Battles . The infantry & vehicles graphics look Amazing!. Maybe we can port something like that into a MOD for TotH
