choosing the right bomber for the right job ?

Post by overkill01 »

Hi,

So what are the best planes for various jobs?

what planes and loadouts should I use for strategic bombing ? interdiction ? unit ? ...

I'm wondering if certain LB's are considerd effective at interdiction and bombing units too (tactical bombing),
if so with what loadout ?
Obviously, fortresses are good for strategic bombing, but are they good for interdiction ?
Or should i use smaller more manoeuvrable LB's for tactical bombings ?

And when do i use for example 4x 250lb bombs vs 1x 1000lb bomb ?

Is this written in the manual ? i have been looking but cant find this stuff

Thanks.

More bombs usually means more targets hit, but with lower damage. Level bombers are not good for interdiction in principle, however you can adjust by selecting the bombers with the highest maneuverability, this allows them to hit mobile targets, use small multiple bombs for this. tactical bomber is therefore the best for interediction. This is based on attacking moving convoys of units to harass and cause damage, a level bomber wont be able to hit a speeding jeep.

Level bombers can still apply a factor to interdiction levels, however this is at a lower efficiency, you will probably only do this at critical breakthroughs such as d day and the siegfried line.

my logic is work on a scale:

if it is likely to be on the move, use a fighter bomber (ideally one with rockets)- so this is the interdiction mission
if it can move within the hex, use a fighter bomber (but with bombs) or a 2 engined level bomber - ground attack etc
if it can't move, use a 4 engined bomber - this covers all infrastructure and patches of sea

For the first two (and naval interdiction), usually more is better. So a payload of 9*500kg bombs is better than 4*1000kg.

For cities think about your target. The standard Bomber Command payload includes lots of incendiaries - great for bombing the population, poor for bombing factories etc
