WWII ships and planes possible?

I have found several places on line saying that there are WWII era ships and planes in the database, specifically for the US and Japan, but for the life of me I can't seem to find any of them when using the editor. Someone on the web claimed to have designed the battle of Midway, but where, for example, are the Japanese carriers he used? (Hiryu, Soryu, etc.) I see none of these ships for Japan when I try to place a new unit in the editor. I don't see them in the database viewer either.

Am I missing something in how to find them?

They are in the cold war database.

From the top menu go to Editor->Database->Change Database->Pan down the drop down until you see the Cold War databases.

You can then search from there.

Now... Is there any way to allow modern day units to be used in the same scenario built from that Cold War database? I tried exporting a modern day ship, then importing it into a scenario using the cold war era ships, but it said "Cannot import incompatible database." Or vice versa... Will a WWII era ship import into a scenario using ships in a modern era database? I want to pit a modern day ship against a WWII era TF. Possible?
(Presently using version 1.10, and completely new to the game)

No sorry. They are two different databases. We have no future plans to merge.

If you want to do a Final Countdown most of the late 70's ships should work.

Thanks mikkey, I stumbled across this thread and found your pointer to the AAR-Tora, Tora, Tora thread. I've been playing around with The Final Countdown scenario, which is a great deal of fun. Any pointers to any other WWII threads/scenarios? (I've been wondering if anyone has, for example, put together a Midway scenario)

You are welcome, Dougolin. Community Scenario Pack contains some scenarios, not directly from WWII, but with WWII setup. For example small scenarios:
"On Stalins Order, 1945" - Il-4, Pe-2, Yak-3 and Mig-3 vs. Spitfire and Avia S-199 (Czechoslovak aircraft based on Bf109G design)
"Phoenix of Indochina, 1949" - Seafire XV and Val vs. Oscar
and one large:
"Fall of Seoul, 1950" - F-51, A-26, B-17, B-29, F-80, F-82... vs. Yak-3, Yak-9, La-5, La-9, Il-10...
