Improving Minor Factions depiction in CSME

Post by Hoplite1963 »

One of the hidden gem's in the CSME order of battle editor is the extensive range of specific orders of battle for particular national / sub national factions / groupings up to and including brigade level that are available within the generic "ProEast" and "ProWest" "nation" groupings.

Both "ProEast" and "ProWest" "nation" groupings have their own set of generic "Bases" and "Icon" files all of which incorporate their generic symbol on either a red or a green background.

I wonder how easy it would be to have duplicate sets of these files set up in the game for each particular force / faction etc , that the "ProEast" and "ProWest" "nation" groupings are used to represent such as PLO, Yemeni Royalists, NLF, FLOSSY, Phalangists, Druze, Hezbollah & GUNT each with their own distinctive flag and VP markers etc. To activate these you could add a couple of new "Customise ProWest Icons" and "Customise ProEast Icons" buttons in the "Options" menu. Clicking on either of these would then open up a list of Icon sets that could be chosen including the current generic one which would remain the default.

As things stand scenario description notes could then have advice added to them as to how a game using either or both of the "ProEast" / "ProWest" should have their icons customised for best effect, although down the line you might want to build the ability to set this into the scenario design process.

This approach could also come in handy for later titles in the series when you want to cover a number of small wars which only merit 1 or 2 scenarios seach when that title first comes out.

This is a really great game and also looking forward to the next one at the end of the year.

Regards

I don't think it would be that difficult at all, especially when using the Mod Enabler that is included with the game.

One would just have to set up the faction bases they wished to use before starting the scenario and you're off and running.

Really glad to hear you're enjoying the game!

Thank you!
