DEATH OF A SILLYFLOWER.
Arthur Miller is no longer alive to write this sorry tale, so I will have to do my best.
I have just accepted the challenge using .09 and can only hope to last a little longer than the 10 turns I did last time I played him. Michael may not have played a game for 2 years, but he's been practising his German start for many weeks now: and boy does he practise seriously [X(], especially when facing a pom [:'(]
Michael worte recently that all his games as German were cakewalks. Getting to '42 will be a win as far as I'm concerned as only Kamil has ever done that and then with a wrecked economy so he was doomed even though the 2 of them called it a draw as neither really wanted to continue. I don't count Smokindave's valiant effort because he would have lost in the summer of '41 had he been playing the sudden death VCs that we are in this game.
I will therefore adopt a more of a short-term survival strategy that I would normally. Also, as I will need every bit of help, I plan to do a different type of AAR. The normal AAR finds readers giving helpful advice about what to do in 'future' turns that have in fact already been played. What I'm going to do is to post the turn as soon as I can get it. I won't then start doing the turn for 24 hours in the hope of getting help and inspiration from all of you who read this.

This game is a great deal different than the ones where Michael played before. Therefore the first thing to overcome is the mindset of defeatism. Unless of course your title is a poke at your opponent
. My mindset is that everyone is beatable just find the right key to unlock that lock. Looking at Michaels old aar he has a few locks that you can open
. You will do just fine Silly

After 11 years in England, I have learned that how Silly writes passes for optimism, not defeatism. This is how they speak just before laying it down

It's a very different game from when we last played and in those days heavy use of HQBUs made a good German unbeatable with ridiculous advances, and I was a complete noob. I didn't even realise that HQBU gave his panzers 2 turns with max MPs!
Dennis and Morvael have worked hard to put the wehrmacht on a shorter leash, and they have 75K fewer trucks now too. Against that, MT can squeeze more petrol out of the system than anyone else who is playing legitimately, and since .08 R attacks against G are far more costly to the russians in terms of loss ratios than before which means that he can take more risks.
The (almost) free unit return for R is v helpful, but its impact, like that of the fewer trucks, will be higher in '42 than '41, so that won't help me [&:]

As advertised here are the pics from the Nazis T1. Thoughts and ideas most welcome but all pockets look unbreakable - even in the north where I am 1 MP short... Hitler seems to be prioritising Moscow as AGN looks comparatively weak and slow. Only 4501 a/c lost at the start of my turn so MT must be slightly rusty [:D].
I will start my turn tomorrow. Only 9 more turns to survive before I am doing better than last time

Little surprised he didn't take Riga, I almost always grab it on T1 as Axis.
Can you grab the 1 hex to open the pocket near Stolbtsy and Slutsk (AGC)?

I agree he did not push as far in the north as expected. I would consider reinforcing Riga as he can't leave it behind him and it will take a turn to clear out.
Otherwise I would not do anything different just yet.
BTW, he has started his own AAR so I think it only fair to swear off reading it while you are soliciting advice. I don't want anything I might say tainted with insights I gain from his posting.

Tx
@NOSB - no. Can't go zoc to zoc into marsh if have to move into the adjacent hex 1st
MT will have rehearsed his opening turns many times over to ensure he doesn't make that sort of error.

I fear that the .09 replacement bug will force a restart, as I have 3 pages' worth of units between 100-188% TOE.Several of these aren't isolated but can't escape, so I told Michael I'm happy to carry on if he lets them out...............

When not too much trouble, could you post a screenshot of these units s'il vous plait?

Does this bug correspond with a TOE-proportional increase of CV?

We just started a .09 game, what is the 'replacement bug', how do we find it if it is happening? Are there any other bugs to be on the lookout for and how to find them?
Thanks
Randy

Thanks

We've both updated to .10 so we've stated a new game.
