New Scen May 43 Start

Post by Andy Mac »

I have been working on a May 43 Start Scenario attached is current version - its far from perfect I am aware of that and the AI is really just the campaign AI truncated at this point.

All comments welcome really focussing on data issues for now before I start on the Ai

Andy

Woot!!

What I've noticed for Japan:
1. I suppose grossly inflated armaments, vehicles, merch and nav pools are for testing purposes only?
2. Some more fortifications on the Japan perimeter maybe? Marshalls/Gilberts/Solomons/NG look grossly neglected by Jap command for all the 1942 and easy prey for invasions
3. Do you plan doing something with China? Like shift Chinese LCUs to north-western part with hard terrain
4. Miri oil is not repaired, nor is Palembang
5. Many bases are below garrison requirements - quite a starting hassle for JFB

Are you striving for historical disposition? If yes then many important ships were at different locations at May 1, 1943. And some (Haruna) were alive ;) I can compile the list from combinedfleet.com TROMs and PM you if needed.

Thanks for your work!

1. Yes
2. I can add a little but the fact is historically the Japanese were nothing like as organised in defence as a human player of the game would be they had a very crustal defence in NG that was mostly bypassed its difficult because no player would allow themselves to be in that bad a position because they know the capabilities of the allies....
3. yes
4. Ok will fix
5. on the list !!

3. China is difficult basically nothing much happened and Chinese did not do what a player would and withdraw so its weird

The biggest challenge and the weirdest thing for us as players is its not how any game we have seen would have went the starting point will NOT have doen some of the basics that any human player would have doen

Being honest I don't see many folks playing this one in either PBEM or AI as the Japanese position will be so weak compared to a normal campaign mid 43 is simply too late to be fun for a Japanese player without having built the war machine but hey ho I wil finish it anywaty

Yes, Japan R&D and airframe production in May 43 might make JFB go sit in the corner and cry quietly ) But we still play Downfall now and then.

Ok, here are the historical big ships' locations on May 1, 1943, that differ from the scenario:
Shokaku/Suzuya/Kumano/Tatsuta at Kure
Yamato/Junyo/Hiyo/Tone/Chikuma/Atago/Chokai/Agano/Jintsu/Naka/Nagara/ at Truk
Musashi/Haruna/Takao should be online and at Truk
Ise/Chitose are undergoing conversion at Kure
Hyuga at Sasebo (conversion started May 1st 1943 in RL)
Mogami/Ashigara/Sendai at Sasebo
Nachi/Isuzu at Yokosuka
Aoba at Truk, seriously damaged
Yubari at Rabaul
Abukuma at Maizuru, fitted with radar
Kiso enroute from Maizuru to Paramushiro with DDs Hatsushimo/Wakaba
Kinu/Kuma/ at Singapore
Kitakami/Oi at Soerabaya

Given this, they would have LARGE stockpile of supply AND HI ....

so the challenge for the IJ player would be a turn around ... can you do it in time ....

It is just weird Allied LBA NG in 43 and holding PM, no expansio attacks, lots of sunk carriers et etc

Very strange start compared to most PBEM's

LCU 5556 4th Mar DefBtn is trying to move to Ndeni from Pearl Harbor. You could actually move this unit to Efate (1298) where it was in May 43
