How is the AI in this game?

Post by GaryChildress »

Looking for a game to use my anniversary coupon on and am wondering how the AI is in this game since I mostly play solo.

Thanks.

There has been A LOT of discussion about the AI here on this forum over the years. The AI is useful for learning the game, which can be challenging enough on its own for new players, and occasionally provides some challenges to players making mistakes (it's easy to do!). But the AI has issues, to say the least, and experienced players get bored quickly.

The recent v1.21.01 hotfix makes some AI improvements over the last v1.08.07 official patch. The AI is a little better getting into wars and for suing for peace to get out of wars. It would be nice to get some feedback from players when they get a chance to try the hotfix. There are still several performance issues that I would like to fix as we go forward. I cannot guarantee the AI will ever become brilliant, but I'm pretty sure I can help make it less stupid. And for most casual players, having a computer opponent that can provide a decent challenge is often good enough.
