1985 War Scenarios (2 so far)

Post by BeirutDude »

OK, so here is the update of the Bad Neustadt Scenarios (which look nothing like the originals!) and a renaming of the Fulda Frontier of Freedom Scenario with a the naming convention I'm going to use for the rest of the 1985 scenarios I produce. Just to make it easier to tell the 1985 scenarios from the 1989 ones. The next scenario I plan will be a continuation of Bad Neustadt into the afternoon as the next two 8th GA/39th MRD echelons move in...

So what's different in the 1985 from 1989 scenarios? I assume a crisis rather than a "Bolt Out Of The Blue" attack with a full 10 days for both Warsaw Pact and NATO (REFORGER) mobilization (See Fulda scenario for he whys of it). So when the hammer fell on August 1st both sides were ready and making finial arrangements. The lethality of a modern confrontation was evident in the first Fulda scenario, I think you will find it equally evident in these Bad Neustadt Scenarios (1 NATO & 1 WP) with entire regiments and squadrons rendered "Hors de combat" within hours of approaching the Forward Edge of the Battle Area (FEBA). Indeed the ferocity of the combat is so intense unit's organic supply is used up in almost no time at all and you find yourself quickly trying to rotate your units to get fresh formations into the battle and replenish those depleted units so they can get back in the fight. Sort of like I was always told the real event would have been! [8|]

Enjoy...

I've just played the NATO Bad Neustadt scenario and it was really good.

The only problem I found was that it was too short.

The scenario ended just as I was getting started.

Extend the scenario by 2 hours and then the US reinforcements might actually be able to do something.

Actually, I set it up that way deliberately. I'm finishing the Play Testing on "Bad Neustadt 12:00, Dog day Afternoon" That will be the "Part two" of the battle during the afternoon as the 39th MRD Follow On echelons try to battle through those reinforcements.

I've also re-balanced the VP hexes in the Fulda and Bad Neustadt 03:00 Scenarios to give the Victory conditions more of a bell curve for both sides. Plan to post all of the updates and the new scenario in a couple of days.

I've been trying a few different WP/Soviet strategies including trying to go south of the Saale River and trying to actually cross it. In both cases it plays differently. By balancing the VPs for both sides it makes exiting WP units more important in the upcoming scenario.

Thanks for the feedback...
