Command LIVE. Play history live, as it happens.

Post by Daniele »

Command LIVE is a very ambitious project. Its aim is to recreate highly accurate scenarios from real-world situations and events, as they happen. WarfareSims has teamed up with the best editors and modders from the community, to create short, engaging scenarios that re-create real life events. Where geopolitical instability calls for military power to come into play, the Command LIVE project calls for players.

The first DLC to be released under this name is Old Grudges Never Die. Players take control of either Russian or Turkish forces in the attempt to maintain national honor and pride, while keeping a lid on hostilities to prevent the outbreak of larger conflict.

This scenario follows on from the real events of November 2015, when a Russian Su-24 was shot down by a Turkish F-16. The consequent geopolitical situation and the interests at stake, including the involvement of NATO, Syrian and rebel forces and ISIS, create a set of circumstances where every false move can end up in a bloodshed.

To better understand the historical landscape and the forces in play, the Command LIVE News Network has put a reporter on the ground and we have just received her video report! Click on the banner below to see it!

The editorial team has also sent a report that we have published into the first issue of a newspaper that will be published alongside each Command LIVE scenario.

Old Grudges Never Die is an expansion for Command: Modern/Air Naval Operations will be available on July 19th on our stores and on Steam!

I think it's a good idea! To keep players refreshed with both news events and playing relative scenarios.

Really cool!

One of the things I like about CMANO is that I can learn about systems in real life, and then see them in-game. Having missions based on big, recent news stories will make that much more tangible, and give interesting background to the news, just as the news is to the game.

I assume it'll be coming to Steam - will it have the same release date?

Looks cool, im immediately interested in new CMANO content, but im trying to understand exactly what this is. Is it one long scenario, or a few linked scenarios. I am very interested, but a little confused as to exactly what this is.

This is literally the best thing that could have happened to CMANO.

I bet 10$ the next one involves the South China Sea, especially with the recent ruling!

Great idea guys I am really looking forward to this.

Yeah South China Sea is a must. The ruling from the international court will be a game changer, there is now legal precedence for challenging China on its crazy BS claim of the entire sea.

I think after that we could see the Baltic Sea/Eastern Europe, due to the Warsaw Summit and the announcement of a reinforcement of NATO forces in Poland and the Baltic States.

I prefer more campaigns ( Yom Kippur War, Iran-Irak War, Malvinas War...) from both sides, but Command Live is an interesting concept. Be careful in order to present actual facts in a fairly and objectively way. LIVE must consider the many sides of the issue and that you are not simply attacking or caricaturing any sides in order to reach a wider audience.

From the pdf:
"...Russia’s air campaign has focused on the different goal of hitting Western-backed rebels threatening the critical territory of Assad’s regime."
From the side brief:
"...continue to destroy the oil facilities that ISIS is running East of Aleppo..."

IMO, the Command Live issue 1 must be corrected in the quote I extracted, 'cause as you can read, there is a contradiction between the issue and the Side brief (and the reality). Changing 'Western-backed' to 'all' IMO the issue can be solved.

What I like about single missions like this (as opposed to campaigns) is that they will allow for quicker turnaround - almost as soon as an event happens, the mission editors can start making the mission, and release it while it's still fresh in our minds. With a campaign, there's a lot more work, and they can only really be released once the entire campaign in real life is over.

(Also, single missions should hopefully be a bit cheaper!)

Not that I dislike campaigns though! I'm loving Northern Inferno! I suppose there'll be more campaigns too at some point in the future.

While I understand and sympathize with what you are saying...your "fact" is as much opinion as you are claiming in the brief. Both are opinions and about as right as each other. Let them manage their own product as they see fit. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it.

I think the neat thing about Command Live beyond actually playing the scenarios is it drives conversations on world events we're all interested in. Keeps things interesting.

Yes indeed, this is a game that actually fuels discussions of important events in the world, and therefore makes it more relevant to play than many other games.
