Why no Sdkfz 251/16 ?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Why no Sdkfz 251/16 ?

Post by Stirlitz »

I have been following the updates so far and there is still no Sdkfz 251/16 (the halftrack with the flamethrowers) in the game. AFAIR this type was produced in sufficient number to have its own representation in the game (at least when compared to the 88 Flak on the Sdkfz 8).

Would be nice if Sdkfz 251/16 can be added in the future.

Do you have valid data regarding production and usage?
Such a vehicle may already be covered by the Panzer Pioneer Squad which contains flamethrowers.
They may have been used in Pz/PzG units only but these have either very limited or no space at all for another equipment slot.

Flammpanzers II and III are both featured in the game, and as MechFO stated, the number of Sdkfz 251/16 produced was 338, a significant number to be included as a separate supporting unit. As for the Panzer Pioneer Squad, I compared the game files and the Panzer Pioneer Squad prior to 1943 also has flamethrower in the squad, which the Sdkfz 251/16 production started only in 1944. This implies the flamethrower in the Panzer Pioneer Squad probably represents a person armed with flamethrower, not the Sdkfz 251/16.
