Lay Blame Card

Post by Lascar »

It is December and Krushchev is at Northern Front HQ. The only Front Card available to select is the "Lay Blame" card. This has been the case for several turns now. Is this by design or a bug?

Hi Lascar,

Khrushchev normally has four front cards -> Firing Squad!, Lay Blame, Dismiss Marshal & Intimidate.

Both Firing Squad and Dismiss Marshal require that there be a replacement Marshal available and, being December, it's possible that you've emptied the pool with a 'my-way-or-the-highway' approach befitting Stalin.

Intimidate increases in cost everytime you use it so it may still be present (down the bottom bar) but unavailable because you don't have enough PP's available.

Another thing to check is if the game has officially reached a conclusion (you get the 'out of warranty' message) as funny things may happen if you play on beyond that point.

If none of the above cover it, let me know.

Cheers,
Cameron

Hi Cameron,

The game in question has completed and even when there was over 100 PPs available only the Lay Blame Card was available.

Also, the game did not reach a conclusion until turn 57 and the Lay Blame Card was the only card available for at least a couple months before the final turn.

Hi Lascar,

If you have any doubts, send me a save game file and I'll take a look.

[edit] if this is the same game as you've posted above then I've already got it! [/edit]

Hi Lascar,

Had a look.

The massed artillery and tanks cards wouldn't have appeared (and they didn't) 'cause you're using version 22 of the game and the bug fix wasn't until version 23. This was done way back in April/May so I'm not sure why it isn't included in the official patch as your version is the pre-Steam release one.

[edit] I checked the patch notes and it should be there (between me coding it and the patch package are a number of other people so I can't vouch for both ends of the process). I'd reinstall the official patch (the game as well if you can be bothered) and check, once done, that you have version 24 running, not version 22 as you do at present. (Go to the briefings tab, top right, select 'config' and it's down the bottom).[/edit]

With regards to Khrushchevs Front HQ cards you've emptied the cupboard of replacement marshals. You dismissed one and replaced another three. There is a limited pool of suitable candidates in '41 (whether this is historical is hard to say but it's there for gameplay reasons) and once it's tapped out Khruschev's 'Firing Squad' and 'Dismiss Marshal' cards would have been removed.

Which leaves 'Intimidate'. I noticed that you've played this 3 times, once on each Front HQ (good move). It's possible I've coded it to prevent repeat use on any front HQ but I'd have to poke around and check as I can't remember.

Hi Cameron,

I did install the latest 1.03r patch back in June. When you say version 22 and 24 are these versions of 1.03r? If not, I don't know where to obtain 24 other than what is publicly available at Matrix. I launched the download from the game's opening splashing screen; is there another method I don't know about.

Somewhat confused.

With further investigation I discovered that in games that I stated after I update to 1.03r that the version is 24. So apparently what happened is that I started the game with Romain before 1.03r was installed with version 22.

I updated to 1.03r mid game and the scenario version remained at 22 apparently explaining what prevented the mass tank/artillery card from appearing. My current game should eventually allow that card to appear I trust.

Hi Lascar,

Yep, updating midgame would do it. It's the version that you start the game with that counts.

Cheers,
Cameron
