Reinstalled in Steam - no go

Post by rocketman71 »

So I reinstalled the game (Player Edition) in Steam in anticipation of the final update. It looks like it is installed, I press play game, it says "runs" but no game starts nor is it present if alt-tab to other apps. If I try to start it again it is blocked by Steam as it "is already running". What to do?

Win 10 64-bit latest updates.

try above first, then if it doesn't work, try below

uninstall it and exit steam, reload steam and re install game, then before running it, run Verify Integrity of Game Cache and make sure all game pre requisite are installed with the game, to check either run them again from the install folder, it will only check and won't install a double file etc

First option didn't work so I did the second. Which are the prerequisites that I should look for and where?

Let me back up and understand the first move. Did you remove the game from steam and then have it install again?

Yes, and then rebooted, started Steam, installed again, verified integrity of cache - so now I don't want to start the game until I know that all prerequisites are installed. I don't know which files those would be and where to look for them. Or should I just try to start the game? I remember having similar problems when first installing the game on my old computer.

As a test, can you setup and exclusion in defender for our game folder and see if that helps? If nothing changes, you can kill off the exception.

Created an exception for the folder in the steamapps/common folder, but it didn't help.

Can you grab a screen shot of the Game main folder? I want to see what is there and if anything is missing.

Go into ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm\Libraries\Animations

There are two .WMV files. Rename those extensions to .BAK and try running.

If your win10 is new, you may need to go into the _CommonRedist file and run those two exe files as admin. Then try to start the game.

I'll be back in about 2 hours. Things I have to do. Good Luck. I'll check back later.

When I run those exe as admin I get the choice of "Repair Microsoft Visual C++" or "Remove..." - I guess I should "Repair" - right?

Repair is the best idea.

Repaired both files but still the same problem. You can tell down in the activity bar that a new window is about to be opened (icon for open programs shift), but no new window with game started.

No into, no nothing. The only thing in Steam that happens is that in the list of installed games that Flashpoint in running (which prevents me for closing down Steam since I can't cancel Flashpoint in any way, has to reboot). I can run other games in Steam and if i mark another game in the list, Flashpoint is marked in green.

So you go into Steam, select Red Storm, hit play. Does the launcher pop up?

No launcher either. It is as if I haven't clicked "Play" at all.

If you go to the Steam folder for the game, try launching the game directly from the exe.
