Stretch the Screen
Any way to stretch the screen so that it takes up the entire monitor. Runs fine with a 4K resolution but the game runs in box with a restricted border at any resolution.

RE: Stretch the Screen
I believe the game can only handle a max size of 1920X1080. That is the resolution I am using and I vaguely recall setting that because Bill Olson said it was the max usable. I can see 44½ hexes wide with that setting on my 19" wide screen, but would not be able to read text if it got any higher resolution.
I am not sure if it is the way the system handles the map art or what that sets the limit. If you look in your map file the map is in chunks and there may be a limit to the number of chunks that can be shown at one time (speculation on my part - I am no expert).

RE: Stretch the Screen
Is the game running with a restricted border around it like in the Options menu?

RE: Stretch the Screen
cdcool is right. The startup/options screens do not resize and are fixed at 1024 x 768 with a dark border filling up the rest of the display. (you will find these bitmaps in the art folder)
However, after you start the game the map should expand to fill the screen/window at the resolution specified. [:)]
Edit: BBfanboy, my equipment isn't that big but there have been much larger screenshots posted on the forums so larger resolutions are possible though I don't know what the real limit is.... [&:]

RE: Stretch the Screen
OK. [:(]
Another option is that you have an LCD monitor (I assume 4K UHD). If that is correct, I assume the requested game resolutions tried were less than the native resolution of the LCD panel (3840 × 2160).
Now, your monitor's built-in menu settings will contain some options (under "Wide Mode" on my monitor) called 1:1, Aspect and Full (or similar). These terms will vary between manufacturers.
The 1:1 option will display the game in actual size on your monitor. ie a 1280 x 1024 game resolution will display as a 1280 x 1024 box surrounded by a black border in the middle of your 3840 × 2160 display. (sound familiar???)
Note the mouse will not run into the black borders....
Aspect will "stretch" the game image in both horizontal and vertical directions with a constant ratio until the picture reaches the top or side monitor border. This will leave black bars either on the top/bottom or left/right edges.
The "Full" option will stretch the picture in both the horizontal and vertical directions until the display is entirely filled. This may result in distortion and the hexes will look flattened (or tall).
Have a play with you monitor settings (check your manual) and see if this is your problem.
Best of luck.

Reg.

RE: Stretch the Screen
Yep I have a 4K monitor at 3840 X 2160
I'm playing around with running it in a window now, some mouse issues.

RE: Stretch the Screen
if you are running in a window the display resolution will be picked up off your desktop - which may be set from interrogating your monitor for it's native resolution. The game resolution will affect the size of the window.
By the way, WITP-AE was designed to run full screen and may have some issues if you click outside of the game window. it also likes to be on the primary display.

RE: Stretch the Screen
Map scrolls when mouse is pushed to the edge of the display (not window).
Are you running dual monitors (extended desktop) the WITP-AE window will only be updated when it is on the primary display??

RE: Stretch the Screen
I run it windowed mode all the time, clicking outside the game window is OK. I have the size set to just a little bit less than my screen's size so that the Windows taskbar on the bottom is visible, allowing me to switch between AE and other programs easily. Works fine.ORIGINAL: Reg

Cool! I'll try windowed again, been using full screen and just hit the windows key and it closes and keeps running and allows me to use other programs also.

I noticed when running in a window, if you select something outside of the game, the game will pause until you select the game box again.( the game window has to be highlighted)ORIGINAL: witpqs

RE: Stretch the Screen
That is 100% normal behavior for running anything in a window (not just on MS Windows). When you click outside the game window you have "selected" something else. You just select AE again to get back in action. BTW, the same applies with notifications, etc. that pop up on your system: they will (or can, it might vary) take focus from AE and you will have to click on AE to get back in action. No big deal, that's how all windowed environments work. [8D]ORIGINAL: cdcool

Running in a window, you are correct,. I had some program that would keep a program running in a window, so I forgot.
