Carrier aircraft not launching

Post by SheperdN7 »

CV fleet stationed 1 hex off of Bataan, been trying to launch ground attacks for the past 3-4 turns with Kates/Vals with a A6M2 escort. Feb 1942. Full sorties available, pilots well rested, squadron commander aggressive and morale is sky high.

The weather in the area has been thunderstorms, although I swear I've seen CV aircraft take off in horrible weather before.

What am I doing wrong?

Screenshots to follow

Edit: I went back a couple of turns and its been thunderstorms for about 4 days (right when the problem arose) so I'm going to go with that as the reason.

Also can't seem to post any of my screenshots, when I try to upload it gives a message "C:\fakepath\screenshot.png is not supported"

Maybe your carriers have more than 115% capacity of planes onboard?

Got it working... Born '97, gimme a break

As you can see, in the post above, the Kate squadron is looking good, full pilot complement and plane compliment. Morale is outstanding and fatigue non-existent. Commander is highly aggressive.

I checked my CV's (Shokaku and Zuikaku) and they are both sitting under the 72 max capacity. Sorties are completely full and the captains of the ships are the finest captains the empire has to offer.

What is wrong? Must be weather I guess, but still I could SWEAR that I've launched before in thunderstorms.

You may very well have, for carrier planes the deciding factor is the weather over the target. They can't have much of a chance in a T-storm. For float planes the weather in their origin hex is decisive. Born in '97? You're just a little baby. [:'(]

Yes the wolves of the pacific mauled her badly, as you well know[;)]. The bombings of the repair operation on her aren't exactly helping matters either, at this stage I'm shocked that there is even any kind of ammo storage left![:D]

Luckily this isn't from our game Sean, its actually from my PBEM against Ric Carpenter and the initial stages of this game are about 4 cruisers better than our game[:D]

I knew about the float planes, didn't know that weather over target for the carrier aircraft, thanks.

Using torpedoes for ground targets?

Doesnt it always tell you if a mission is cancelled due to weather?

Except for the special case of Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th, Torp bombers when conducting a ground or port strike on a target hex will still use bombs regardless of the setting.

AH SO....
"If a check for an appropriate target or torpedo supply fails, then the strike will use bombs instead."

As having only played Allies I tend to favor bombs for everyone.

How many squadrons or fragments of squadrons on your CV? Five is the max for operations. If you have a sixth one I think you can fly it off to a land base but cannot mount any other ops.

Weather, air superiority, number of planes in raid limitation, shallow water hex - any of these, imho

It's not 100%, the attacking group has to know the weather is unsuitable over the target to decline to launch.

The planet Gorn is tidally locked with its sun, Solala. As a consequence, we don't have years. We're very jealous of you pathetic earthlings having years when we don't. [:@]

The planet Gorn has seven moons so months are rather haphazard. You have to specify which moon you are referring to, Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy or Grumpy. We also have no weeks, and no days off. Regardless of where you are the sun neither rises or sets. Our first exposure to Earth was a transmission of the Hemingway novel "The Sun Also Rises". You can imagine how strange we thought you aliens must be.

The expression "a day in the life" was quite confusing to us. Life begins and ends. Days don't.

Saying "I'm going to stay up late tonight" is an insult. It means "I'm going to live longer than you, suckah".

Thunderstorms should not usually stop a launch. What is the DL of the target? That might be a factor.
