Partisan Rant

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Partisan Rant

So there I was, I just did a HQ buildup on a panzer army the turn before which was all on axis rail. My infantry blew a 40 mile wide hole with no enemy in front of them. My offensive is about to begin. I then select my panzer unit and its...WTF 30% fuel?!!!!!!!!! I check my rail hex all broken, and sure enough a lone partisan unit just decided to appear....first and only one of the war so far, 300 miles back at the most critical juncture on the entire map rendering 300 miles of track useless...rendering my HQ buildup useless...wasting untold thousands of trucks...rendering my panzers useless...halting my offensive before it even started. Next turn all mud. The Wehrmacht has been derailed by some lawrence of arabia wannabes. WTFF #$@#%#%$#%#

A security divison came down and shot everyone in sight. Villages burned. They say the order came straight from the top.

I too had this same problem a few turns back. Stopped my entire AGC for almost 2 weeks basically. One stinkin partisan, and i still can't figure out how exactly to best prevent it. At the moment, i have 2 division broken down and defending every other hex along the most critical rail net in Sept 41. Even that though i think could be attacked without me being able to stop it, and the biggest problem is how to fix it, other than stopping your FBD in its tracks and sending it all the way back to fix it.

Here is my thread on this...

Hi,

Told ya, and told ya, and ...told ya some more, and told ya, and ..... and **** and ....

Fix is easy, but, have to do it first (before it happens or can reroll the logistics phase if PBEM with saves).

I'll put the fix up tomorrow IF somebody asks real nice, meanwhile back to the asylum, and you guys thought they had me locked away for good. Giggle, snark, giggle, giggle.

If you really have to rely on a single rail connection you may want to place some forts at important rail junctions.

Hi Dude,

Got two.

1) Make it impossible by not allowing the Sov player to begin partisan air supply. IE, no level bombers in VVS or BAK abs on night missions. The partisans will appear on the map as "cadres" but won't attack anything. It takes about 6 turns of air supply to get the partisans to start blowing things up. So if you start them up about t 10 they can have an effect, t 16 or so, in late summer, but not so huge.

You can still use level bombers for emergency supply of isolated units, night missions in non VVS/BAK abs.

Slow typist, so post this, then comes no 2. Don't want to get timed out

ok, number two.

If playing v ai, disable auto save. Make your own saves when you want to take a break, and, the good part, make a save before you end turn F12. Logistics phase runs after end turn, if partisans do something or anything you don't like, just reload the save you made before end turn, and do over. Only takes a few seconds.

Same with pvp game, except the Axis player makes the saves, etc. Have to use PBEM. Axis player does the reload, sends the turn again.

Charlie loves everybody, hehehehe...

This won't help. Some patches ago there was change allowing partisans to attack hex with Axis unit.

But those units reduce the chance of an attack, so it's still a boon.

But that doesn't mean it won't happen.

Where should night fighters be based in the game to best intercept the supply to partisans?

I'am not sûre it was technicaly possible to intercept ressuply operation without prior intelligence of who/when/where the drop/ressuply will occured.

Soviet union is really big to patrol by night. It was already quite hard to intercept massive raid to germany by night.
Night interception was very difficult at the time.

Brakes are for cowards !!
