Research Reorg.

Post by sPzAbt653 »

I've consolidated and reorganized the Research Categories and everything seems to work well, except the Heavy/Strategic Bomber category. When I gain a new level and try to upgrade a unit, it takes the expenditure but doesn't refresh the numbers, so it looks like it is not upgrading the unit. I don't know if anyone else has ever done this or seen this, or if its worth Hubert's time to look into, but thought I would post it.

EDIT: This turned out to be a non-issue. My only guess is that it was an artifact from an earlier beta version that 'corrected itself' once things were reset in the Editor with the public release.

Here's a shot of the Upgrade Dialog. I click the arrow to upgrade the unit +1, and it assesses the MPP cost, but the numbers on the right don't upgrade. I thought maybe the screen just wasn't refreshing, but when I go to the unit, the Range is still 12.

Edit: This isn't something that just happened, I made this change a couple months ago and since we were in Beta I didn't want to bother anybody with it, and was also kind of hoping that it might magically work in the release version. [;)]

Hi

As this category was originally (if I've read it correctly) Ground Attack Weapons, unless you change it manually then this renamed category won't provide any actual benefits to Strategic Bombers.

I'm hoping it's a simple thing like that, but if not then please let me know. [:)]

I did manually change everything [who knows if I got it correct, I'm winging it of course].

Now that I'm looking at it again for the umteenth time, I just realized that maybe it is a slot misalignment. In this shot you can see I moved the Heavy Bomber Upgrade slot down to the bottom [3rd] slot, my theory being that I wanted 'Strategic Warfare' upgrades to be the right corner upgrade number on the unit counters. But if I look at the next post ...

... then I see that the HB's are in the 2nd slot, so maybe it isn't reading anything from the 3rd slot. Or maybe it is reading the blank entry that I have for the 2nd slot. Or maybe it is only showing two slots because I messed something up.

I'll mess around with it some more.

Using the shot in Post #4 above, I unticked the Disabled box for the N/A category just above the Heavy Bombers, and that moved the HB category down one line in the Post #5 shot, which worked out this way in the game [seen below]. Now I can upgrade the HB's, so all is good. I knew you could get it fixed for me Bill [;)]

I'd rather be able to disable the N/A's so that they are not seen in game, and I think all three categories should show in the editor [as they don't in post #5] which would avoid the issue, I think. But this is workable now that I know what it is.

Glad to hear you've got it fixed. [:)]

However, it does seem wrong that the N/A is showing in game. I'd be happy to take a look at your campaign if you want to send it to me via WeTransfer or Dropbox?

The N/A's don't show if they are Disabled. As you can see in that last screen shot, the top slot is also N/A but is not seen as it is disabled.

My aim was to combine the Upgrades as much as possible, to get it so that units only needed to upgrade one category. That was accomplished, but then I liked the idea of having 'Strategic Warfare' separate so I changed things a little. All the original single upgrades are on the center line and then show up on the unit graphically in the center slot. Then the SW upgrades are in the bottom slot and show up on the units on the right [or corner].

Hi Steve

I've just taken a look and for the UK the second N/A category for Strategy Bombers wasn't ticked as disabled, so I've done that and checked in game and it looks correct now. It will just need to be done for all the Majors.

Some very nice counters you've got there! [:)]

Thanks Bill - but if you disable that category, then we get what is seen in Post #5, and with this configuration the Heavy Bombers will not upgrade.

With the 2nd category not ticked as Disabled, then we get what is seen below, and with this configuration the Heavy Bombers will upgrade.

So as you can see by looking at other categories, such as V-Weapons, the same is consistent thru this editor screen, in that if you have the 2nd line disabled, it doesn't show up in the Upgrade Increment dialog, and this causes it not to work properly.

That is odd, as I can upgrade it with the 2nd category ticked as disabled.

Maybe leave it as it is then for now, and give it another go when we release the first patch in case it's something fixed since initial release.

When I post things like this, I try to run thru as many things as I can think of so that I don't waste anyone else's time on something specific to me. After reading your your previous comment, I went back and re-ticked Disable for the 2nd category, then started a test game, and now it upgrades [X(] The only difference between now and when I have done this in the past is that this time Bill has spoken.
