Korean war 1950-53 an AAR

Post by lion_of_judah »

The Invasion of South Korea

On the morning of Sunday, the 25th of June, 1950. The North Korean People's army attacked across the 38th Parallel in a furious, coordinated offensive against South Korea. According to P'yongyang radio broadcast that morning, the righteous invasion was aimed at the downfall of the South Korean government led by the bandit traitor 'Syngman Rhee"

In the period 1946-50, North Korea achieved a remarkable millitary buildup, far surpassing the efforts of their southern neighbors. One major advantage was that a good one-third of the North Korean People's army were highly trained veterans of the Chinese Revolution, who had just been repatriated by the Communist Chinese government after the successful termination of that struggle. When it came, the invasion across the 38th parallel was a complet surprise to the South Koreans, even though a virtual state of war had existed between the two countries well before the 25th of June.

House Rules:

China maynot enter the war until the following have happened.

1. one Chinese Army my enter North Korea after any US or ROK unit enters North Korea.
2. three Chinese Armies may enter North Korea after the North Korean capital has fallen
3. When any, US or ROK unit comes within two hexes of Sinuiju, then China may commit fully

North Korean forces at start of war were:233,000 men

10 Infantry Divisions
4 Tank Regiments
1 Motorized Regiment
Several independent Infantry Brigades
180 Aircraft

Abbreviations:

KPA- Korean people's army
ROK- Republic of Korea
TSF- Task Force

KPA advance continues and by August this is the current situation. Seoul is now threatened with encirclement. The US 24th, 25th and 1Cav divisions are now in theater heading towards the front. TSF smith is at the southern end of the front, south of Seoul along with a few ROK regiments as they are the anchor for the southern defense line.

Two KPA units have broken the ROK defense south of Seoul and have crossed the Han River!

ROK replacements will not begin arriving until 10-16-1950. It took 3 months if not longer to train ROK forces. The South Korean government can mobilize an emergency reserve division though. US replacements will begin arriving in 2nd week of September. KPA replacements will begin arriving on the second turn.

As of the third turn, KPA loses are 14,000 men compared to ROK losses of 8,000 men

ROK forces have been pushed back after heavy fighting outside of Seoul, with KPA forces now encircling, the South Korean capital cutting it off from the rest of the ROK

Situation as of October 1950: after a desperate defense of the South Korean capital, ROK forces were overwhelmed by KPA forces. Heavy rain has set in, and winter is near
