Side turret of a STUG

Post by Gribeauval »

I'm playing the Stalingrad campaign designed by Rico with the last version of the game.
A russian anti-tank rifle has destroyed a STUG with a side turret impact.
I don't know if it is a "cosmetic" bug or something else.

It could have been a Critical Hit... the side armor of a StuG III was not especially thick (30 mm, if I remember correctly).

Yes UP844.
But the STUG as no turret, so why an impact of the side of the turret ?

According to Wikipedia (so take it with a big grain of salt) a PTRD AT rifle could pierce 40mm of armor at 100 metres. If this is true, only Panthers and Tigers would be safe from such weapons. On the other hand, the very few times I used German ATRs (against BT-5's) I achieved a lot of hits, but very few kills :(. Recently, I used them against Sd Kfz 251 APCs in Rico's "Big Cats at Bay", with the same (negligible [:(]) results.

I think the "turret" of a SP Gun is intended as its upper superstructure: its armor thickness might be different from that of the hull. On the other hand, I am not sure if ToTH takes into account vehicle size (a great advantage of StuG's and similar low vehicles), but I think it does.

Yes the turret will be the upper structure.
