Game very slow in a big campaign

Post by Gribeauval »

I'm playing the Stalingrad campaign designed by Rico with the last version of the game.

When all the german troops are on the map, at turns 13/14/15, the game becomes incredibly slow : movements, combats, display of the fire/melee results, ...

I have disabled all the sounds, but it is not enough.

When an AI tank moves from one hex to another hex, the tank disappears during 5 seconds and reappears in the destination hex.

I had already played this campaign with the previous version and I don't remember that it was so slow (I'm not sure at 100%).

Maybe is it my configuration ??

I have stopped playing the campaign and reopened the game another day, but it doesn't change anything. The speed of action is the same.
There isn't apparently any other task running in the background of my computer that could slow the game.

Regards.

Have you checked to see if your anti-virus program is scanning after the update?
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

best way to check if it's your pc is upload a report so support can check it 4 u

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8 )
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments (zip) rather than pasted into the body of the post.
add the exe of the game to your Anti Virus and firewall program, to make sure check the logs of these to see if it was one if any of them was to blame.

That usually means a 3rd party program, like an Internet security programs, is or could be interfering with the game or update installation.

run the game from a admin account and use full admin permissions.

please make sure all game pre requisite are installed with the game, even if you think or fully know there are already installed, it will only over write, and it may be that you have a older or newer version of these where as the game in question may need a certain version.

please make sure you are running the latest game version and have up to date drivers installed on your pc,

If you have the original version. So you'll need to update it from the Internet.
Please note that you'll only need the last update, as the updates are comprehensive. (not needed with steam)

To captain Darwin : no, the antivirus was not scanning while I was playing.

To Zakblood : I have attached a Dxdial to this message (by the way, it indicates an issue with CW2, another Ageod/Matrixgames).

To Rico, not using autorun doesn't change the speed of action.

To all, I have started a smaller scenario and everything seems ok. This issue is perhaps due to the size of the map, to the number of units, to the urban terrain in Stalingrad campaign ??

I have also another issue : if I run the game as administrator, I can 't find the saved games, because they are hidden on my system.

Regards.

Big maps with a lot of units will take a huge toll on the CPU. I guess that a lot of new units has arrived at Turn 13 or so which will explain the slowdown. The new release is actually faster than earlier versions. Make sure you have your Laptop connected using the power cord and not running on the battery only. This will make the CPU much slower. You did right in turning of all sound as this uses more CPU power. Check also for background programs using the CPU and turn those off if possible.
For my part, I shall do my duty as a general; I shall see to it that you are given the chance of a successful action. /Lucius Aemilius Paullus
