Cant get either of the modded plts in this BG to fill the two 'unused' 2nd Plt slots. Both plts do fill the 1st Plt slots
In general its unclear how many tms a plt needs to fill 2nd Plt when there are less than 7 slots available. Also confusing is thhe difference between 'unused' and 'available'. Can any of the PITF/GTC data devs shed some light on the parameters involved?
The second platoons are filled out by squads. Sometimes you only get one squad, or two squads for second platoon. So if your the unit structure for your platoon doesn't have any subunits (squads) the game won't populate a limited-slot second platoon properly.
I believe the display should say [Available] for those two slots. The text for the unused slots usually says "(Unused by this platoon)" I believe. Did you modify GUI.TXT? You might be seeing the wrong strings.
Ahh...those two unused 2nd Plt slots needing to be filled by the 2 teams in a squad (0 echelon unit structure) explains why a depleted forcepool plt with 5 tms might not be able to fill them. If say a Rifle tm was lost from sqd1 in a Brit plt and a Bren tm was lost from sqd2, there wouldnt be a full 0 echelon sqd left, just two half sqds and the 2 echelon PltHQ, Piat and 2". But a depleted plt with just 2 tms could fill two available 2nd Plt slots if both tms happened to be in the same sqd per unitstructure.txt..
I assume the requirement for full 0 echelon sqds is the same if it was a 4-slot 2nd Plt?
I was operating on the assumption that, as stated in the manual, available 2nd Plt slots wouuld be filled starting with the strongest units. Thanks for the clarification that unitstructure/echelon is involved.
Yes, using a modded GUI.txt that only edits text strings for now. To make 21 slots available Ive been starting my plts\s at btn echelon (4) and ending at plt echelon (2) without any sqd level (0) subunits, just a roster of tms. Will only have to move that roster of tms down to another layer of sqds to fill 2nd Plt slots.
The game will auto-select the strongest /squad/ unit to fill the first two slots. Or the two strongest squads in four slot platoon. Not the strongest individual teams. I can understand the confusion though.
I'd suggest changing the requirement that only a full sqd can fill 2 available slots in 2nd Plt. As it stands now, the real world equivalent would be like telling the CO of an understrength unit that he cant be reinforced because there arent any full squads available, only half sqds.
Anyhoo...thanks for the guidance. Adding another layer of 0 echelon units solved that 2nd Plt slots issue in my project. My inner lazyboy had hoped to skip that chore.
