Two PBEM problems

Post by Jagger2002 »

A couple days ago I started a PBEM. I have very quickly run into two unusual problems.

1. I assigned an artillery unit (Bty 1/53) to do a neutralization bombardment at 1021 hours. The bombardment should have landed at 1026. All comfirmed by the subunit TOC diary. My next command cycle was at 1041. The bombardment did not occur. No bombardment holes in the hex, no casaulties, no indication in the TOC diary or during replay of a bombardment. Examining the artillery unit on the map, it shows the bombardment waypoint still in place on the target. However When looking at the unit panel, it shows the artillery unit with orders of ON CALL. So basically, it appears I have two simultaneous conflicting orders for the unit and my bombardment was not executed.

2. During the same command cycle time, 1021, I plotted new movement orders with three waypoints for a unit (5/2/351) then doing resupply. It is too early in the new command cycle, 1041, for the unit to begin movement. However the unit panel shows the unit still in resupply with the next action at 1111. Also in unit panel, it does not show any movement orders or waypoint timing. Looking at the map, it shows the three waypoints. So map and TOC diary both comfirm the movement orders from 1021 but looking at the unit panel, it does not have those movement orders but still has the resupply orders.

I have played RedStorm quite a bit over the last month against the AI and I haven't seen anything even remotely close to this. I can only guess it is related to the PBEM process. My version of FC:RS players edition is matrix 2.0.11 and my opponent has steam 2.0.11. We are playing PBEM classic.

Any idea what is going on here? Myself and my opponent have the PBEM turns and can provide them to you.

I will pass this on to Rob to check out. I know he did some fix for PBEM for the upcoming 2.0.12 update. Have to see if this is new. Save games would be great. PM me the files. Thanks.

I just tried to send a PM and it claims the PBEM files are too big. Then I tried the email option but it doesn't give the option to attach files. Can you PM me with a regular email address. Thanks.

Thanks cbelva. I have just sent an email with the PBEM attachments.

If you would, let us know if you are able to find a resolution to the problems. We have put the game PBEM on hold for now. Thanks again.

I would like for you to continue the game and see if it happens again. As I mentioned in my email to you, I see what happened in your 2nd saved game file, but I can't duplicate it when I run your first saved game file. I could be a very rare burp in the program and you may have been "lucky" to have hit it and you might not see it again.

Thanks Charles. We are going to give it another shot but probably a restart. There are some changes for the scenario that I want to get in which would require a restart. If we see anything similar, I will let you know. Thanks again.

Same problem popping up in our 2nd PBEM. Just noticed in our latest turn 3 units with:

In the current game, I believe each unit has hold orders rather than resupply as in the above example.

I do not see this problem playing the AI. I only see it playing PBEM which suggests some sort of problem in the PBEM process.

I have the PBEM files and screenshots. We are going to continue playing as the game is almost over. I noted the "next action" times for each of the units. I will see if the movement orders are actually executed or ignored.

PS: I have also noticed several times when I adjust waypoint locations, I get an additional delay added to the "next action" times. It doesn't always happen-just every now and then.

Rob is currently looking into this issue with the PBEM. We will be talking Monday night in our weekly dev call and see if 2.0.12 is going out with out a PBEM fix while Rob works out the issues and then we will hot fix after there is a solution.

The waypoint delay bug should be fixed in the 2.0.12.

That sounds great. Also just got the PBEM turn back. Checking all 3 units, they all actually moved. All 3 units are still in their movements to waypoint one and do not show any waypoint information on their unit panels. The good part is that they are executing their movements and movement started in accordance to the next action times.

One other funny thing I noticed. One of the three units is moving mounted on their BMPs (covered 10 hexes in ~25 minutes) but the counter displays the unit as dismounted with the infantry symbols.

If the PBEM turns would be helpful, I have them.

Turns out my game installation was slightly corrupted. I wonder if there were other corruptions in the game which might be responsible for the PBEM problems I encountered. I now have a new and hopefully non-corrupted installation. If I see the same PBEM problems again, I will report it here but hopefully, I will never see them again.

And if no one else has ever reported pbem problems similar to mine, I would just assume the problems were due to my game corruption. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the help.
