Usage of Pools of R5, R10, RZ

Post by wga8888 »

Significant numbers of these types start in the Soviet campaign pools but groups can not be created, only converted to. My plan is to build a few regiments of U-2 Recon & U-2VS and convert these to R5/R10 & RZs. R5/R10 cannot be any worse than U-2 Recon; RZ can likely night bomb just as well as U-2VS. Such squadrons will gain experience and can be converted to better types one numbers allow. I am curious if other players bother with these types.

don't fool around with recon.

You will need them and they will disappear thru use.

First, you can't convert U2-VS to recon planes. Hopefully that's clear to you. The R-Z are really not needed unless you're just into biplanes.

A mix of short and long range recon regiments is appropriate given your factories manufacture both. A typical mix of regiments might look like this:

Long range recon
9 SB-2R
6 Pe-2R

Intermediate range recon
2 R-5

Short range recon
7 U2-R

Generally speaking direct select the short range aircraft when you need them since otherwise I think the AI tends to auto select the long range ones. That will insure gradual attrition across the board. And the U-2Rs are quite fragile.
