Overunning

Post by ashkpa »

I have a question on overrunning. First after an overrun is the stack of units allowed to split and continue in different directions? Or must I move them together or drop units off only.

Second, in MWIF, if I have three land units in a hex and I want to move two of them together, leaving the 3rd behind, how can I select just the two units? I know with Naval units I can select Ctrl-click and a form comes up to select the units I want to move. I don't get the same effect with land units. This is important for this overrun where I only need the two corp for the overrun and would like to have at least the division end up in a different location.

The rule is: "You can move your land units one by one, or stack by stack, as you choose. You must finish moving the unit(s) you are moving before you can start moving another unit." and "You can drop units off from the stack in any hex it enters but you can’t pick up other units as you go." So you can't split up other than by dropping units off and they can't move further.

TO select two - use the Fly-out. Double-click on an empty land hex to put it in the Fly-out mode then hover over the stack, then you should be able to select units.

Thanks for this advice. I found another work around before I read this. I put the division in sentry mode. Used Ctrl-click to select the two corp and completed the overrun - dropping the unit off as I went. After the overrun was done I went back and took the division out of sentry mode. Your method is more elegant.

Went back to try this. Nothing happens when I double-click on a empty land hex? I am left clicking. If I try right clicking twice, the supply pop-up comes up. Thoughts?

The double click on an empty land hex does nothing visible (except see below). But it does ensure that subsequently hovering over a land hex with units will cause the Fly-out to appear.

If you have Naval Review Details (NRD) open, then the double click on a land hex will close that form. The two are mutually exclusive. You can select any unit from a Fly-out, so sometimes for a few naval units involved, this is quicker than CTRL-Left-Click on a port or going to and from the NRD. BTW double clicking in a sea zone is the complimentary function to bring up the NRD (but be a bit patient, it sometimes takes a little time to appear).
