Radar and land mass clutter

Post by giantsquid »

Hello everybody,
I played First contact scenarios in editor mode and I noticed the attacking formation, composed of Russian ships and helicopters had no problem at detecting the Norwegian ships even when they are very close to the coast.
According to Harpoon4 board game rules, for example, you should have a 50% radar range reduction when ships are very close to the coast, and it makes sense. Some ships can be placed very close to the coast in specific locations with camouflaged nets and be probably undetectable with radars, probably even with ISAR.

I was wondering which kind of land mass clutter performance degradation radars have in CMANO.

Thanks to the devs for the excellent work so far, as always.

The Norwegian radars are active in the scenario and looking at the event log you can see its the ESM on the Nanuchka's that make the detection followed by the FCR.

Try just building your own little test or turn the radars off. Try detecting out to see and against the coast. Clutter does matter as does target aspect.

Thanks

Thanks Mike, I have built a scenario and I will post it on the next days.
From some test I made, it seems the detection range of a SS radar vs a ship close to landmass varies according to those factors

- radar signature of the ship
- distance of the ship from the coast; closest ships are more difficult to detect, but after 2NM the clutter effect seems to fade completely.
- tech level of the radar; modern ones have better resolution

Is everything correct?
