Sub Mine Laying

Post by krb3 »

Just a couple of questions regarding sub mine laying. For surface ships there is a toggle to "Lay Mines/Do Not Lay Mines", but for subs I do not see where there is that option. I've created TF for sub to lay mines, replentished at port and a message comes up stating the sub is already loaded with mines, but I do not see them on their weapons screen. How do subs lay mines if the option does not exist to "lay mines". Is the displacement determined by their detination hex and it's automatically done? Are sub mine laying bascially used as anti-submarine tactic or is it for ships as well. New to WITP and not sure exactly how this works.

You didn't post a screenshot, but make sure you have created a Sub Minelaying TF, and not a Sub Patrol TF. A proper Sub Minelaying TF does have a Lay Mines switch.

Not sure what you mean, since he options are there on my screen. I'd check 3 things:

1. Game version. If you just downloaded it, the download I was directed to when I first bought the game waa very old version and I had to update. All kinds of stuff people talked about were not in teh game when I was using 1.0.something instead of 1.7.11.24. There are higher versions out than the one I am running, but I think this is still the latest GA version. The other new ones are Betas afaik.

2. Verify the task force is Sub Minelaying

3. Look for the Lay mines / Do nto Lay mines toggle as shown in picture.

You have no available mines.

Check the pools that you do have them and that they are not being stockpiled.  Once you have available, non-stockpiled mines you will get a message telling you mines are being loaded when you select a sub and the TF screen which show the "lay/do not lay" toggle.

Thanks for the responses. I do have that version 1.7.11.24. So, I did something wrong and when I do have this issue again will take screen shots and post.

How big was the port ? In small ports and/or with low nav support mines cannot be replenished

Did you ever get this sorted as I have the same problem. Version 1.8.11.26b. Going through the krill spreadsheet and setting up mine laying subs out of Manila. 8th Dec start.

Check the size of the port and the available naval support, then look up in the manual to see what size port that you need or what size port plus naval support is needed. Also, look at how many mines of the proper type are in the stockpiles.

Also, the port has to have enough supplies available.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

If you stockpile all your mines (something I do recommend, with a caveat), then the Sub Minelaying mission will still be created, but it won't be able to load any mines on the sub, and thus you won't see the "Lay Mines/Do not Lay Mines" option on the TF screen . This is very likely your problem.

The caveat was that you keep stockpiles set to "Y" only until you actually need them, which is the case here. These missions need the "Mk 10 Mine" (of which there are only 100), so set "stockpile" to "N" for that device and now you'll be able to load up all 6 minelaying missions (then set stockpile back to "Y").

Thanks Kull I didn't even realise the stockpile was set to "Y". Sorted now.
Also it seems I forgot your name sorry about that.
