Axis rail units

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Axis rail units

How come the axis don't get any rail construction units to fix damaged rail lines?

93 views and no response suggests i'm missing something obvious. [:)]

I don't see any listed with the construction filter in the commanders report. Shouldn't I have some railroad units to repair important rail tracks as relying on the auto ones to repair rail isn't working.

Indeed an interesting question but not easy to anwer. A quick search at Lexikon der Wehrmacht has soem info: FBD 5 was operating in Italy from Autumn 43, much smaller FBD 6/7 in Balkans area. So at least FBD 5 could be included.
As Axis what kind of rail do you have to repair ? Rather atypical for the side usually focussed on defense but not offense.

Every construction unit will repair the rails. You notice this when Italy collapses and partisan activity rips up the rails in southern Italy.

I have some static division holding the line in Italy. my plan was to cover them with my mobile units and rail them back to my 2nd fortified line but I was horrified to find that several rail lines are destroyed so I cant rail them out. [:(]

Italy surrendered several turns ago so I assume that was partisan activity. ive just ran the turn and no units have been dispatched to repair the tracks.

All the Italian labor units are with army group C in Italy, 11 labor units are with OKW with the rest attached to other corp hqs in Italy.

I was hoping these would help with building forts but they don't seem to do very much.

Any ideas what im doing wrong here?

l'v had the same problem and still do. the germans can't repair the rail lines if they push the allies back into the water. its something that needs fixing. l'v taken sicily back in multiple games and the rails never get auto repaired or manually.

I'm surprised that the rails in Sicily don't get auto repaired. Do you have construction units on the island?

I am pretty sure that OKW is too far away to fix the rail lines in Sicily. Army Group Kesselring would be in range, however...and I think that is where the Italian construction units show up.

It is possible that more 'important' things are being fixed first.

Construction units in corps can only go out 5 hexes to repair...so they would have to be on Sicily to work.

rail line would be repaired in mainland italy and on the small island but not sicily. con units all go to the port cities and just sit there. some cities had supplies depots other not. all the cities had no dmg . l moved con units in corps hq, army hq, heck i moved them in to all of the on the island i even moved army group C. i even moved the highest hw OKW i think it is and nothing will repair the rails in sicily. l am lost for new ideas to try and fix it. Maybe its a bug l'v found.

Situation: Allies control Sicily but no units there (both RR units on Italian mainland). Some eng'r units auto-move to Sicily to enlarge airfields, but no rail hexes ever repaired.

Latest patches, including latest BETA, running.
