AAR "Goblin on the Doorstep" Northern Inferno Campaign

Post by bootlegger267 »

HMS Revenge has departed Faslane and is to breakout into the Inner Seas west of Scotland to preserve England's nuclear deterrent.

The success of the barrier ops has not precluded that Soviet subs have still penetrated.

There is no hiding here.. Sea Kings are banging away with their dipping sonar, two Frigates and a Destroyer, the HMS Plymouth and HMS Leander, and HMS Matapan, are the screen.

At 23:08z, SSV Mayak, a Soviet ELINT Spy ship, is identified trailing the Revenge.

The Wasp from HMS Leander, whose load out is 2 AS12 anti-ship missiles, is launched to attack the Mayak....

Cpt Tait, the Cdr of HMS Leander, read the dispatch from HMS Matapan. Two Moored Minefields were detected at N55, 35'11", W6,41'18" and N55, 28'34", W6, 29'03". The presence of the minefields were an indication that the Soviets had penetrated the approaches.

With that in hand, and the detection of the Mayak trailing the Revenge by 6nm's, Cpt Tait made the decision to launch his Wasp. Conditions were minimal at best, but having the Soviet ship sending position data to his "friends" was not an option.

At 2345z, the LEander's Wasp reported launching two missiles at the Mayak. One missed, one hit. No immediate BDA was available.

Not long after the report reached Tait, another contact was reported only 4nm's @268, directly in his path....

Cpt Tait, being senior screen Officer, had the authority to place the force into a "Weapons Free" ROE posture. With the report of the minefields and the new contact,
Tait sent the order...

It was time to fight his ship. Tait went to flank speed and gave orders for an erratic course as he closed the distance to the unknown contact.
Its radar was painting him every 2-4 seconds and he wanted a more accurate picture as was being painted...
