Regarding options

Post by IBender »

I am currently playing a global game with all options selected when I set up the game.. However, I question that actually. When I set up the game, I chose to use 'all the options"

However, now in this game its 1944 and I was looking at the options while inside the game and I see that apparently there are tons of options that are not actually on and that confuses me.

Specifically, looking into info > optional rules there are plenty that seem to be off and I cant say I have any understanding of them. Examples include 'rough seas' 'oil tankers' 'v weapons' ' atomic bombs' etc

How do I actually play with all the rules and also why when I start a global game and 'choose to play with all the optional rules', that I actually do not play with them all?

Hope that makes sense.

Not all optionals have been coded. You should not be able to tick those not coded as they are greyed out. So if you click to play all, you will only play with all the ones coded.

Thank you for that information. Do you know if there is a plan to code them? Also, are these optional rules to be found in the board game version...via different expansion?

There is a plan to code them - but this is behind netplay (and may be other stuff too).

I think there is a mixture. Some optionals are available using units in the basic game, while others require units that come with expansions and other don't refer to additional units, just different rules. I don't have a list of optionals to hand but I think for example V-weapons and Atomic bombs are available with the basic game, Frogmen needs Asia Aflame and Rough Seas I don't think needs units - it just has a different twist on the basic rule.

I am pretty sure that in the RAC each optional rule will tell you what you need (and where it comes from) to play it.

EDIT: Just checked RAC - and yes, it confirms which optional needs which expansion (if any).

They are in the RAW (rules as written). V weapons and Atom are pretty strightforward to understand, but Rough seas introduces a penalty for Light Cruisers and the like in certain weather conditions and oil tankers separates the convoys you need in convoys for petrol and convoys for not oil resources, you buy and use them separately although there is a possible conversion (expensive) of ones to others.

Provided you get a ruleset that is edited after the changes, those optionals will be there., although it's true they seem to be more detailed in the expansions themselves.
