Editor?

Post by 76mm »

The screen shots of the game look much better; much brighter, better fonts, etc. But for me a major issue with this game has always been the clunky GUI (separate issue from the graphics), particularly with the editor. Are there any screenshots available for some of the screens for the editor?

Also, scrolling through dozens of unit types for various countries and eras in the editor was a major PITA; is it possible to filter units in the editor, or at least create customized unit lists for the editor so that you can eliminate the units that you don't need (ie, most of them)? (IIRC in previous versions of the editor, the editor needed a set number of units, so if you deleted units to include only WWII units, for instance, the editor did not work correctly...)

The Event Editor has been improved:

1. There is now a scroll bar.
2. There is a "Go To Event" option.
3. There are now buttons to copy, insert, and delete events (clicking in the event window no longer inserts event copies).

The Force Editor is planned to be re-designed, but, as mentioned long ago, that will happen post release. But some of it has been implemented already as shown in these shots. First, the Editor Unit Report. This contains some of the Force Editor features (Equipment list, icon selection, color selection, size selection).

Note the scroll bars on the equipment list. Each equipment sub-equipment set can be shown separately.

Note the three new Unit Sizes.

Finally, some of the Force Editor functions are on the OOB report (flag select, Force name):

Editing forces is still a nightmare especially for a very large scenario. I'm helping with one that will be a few thousand units. Something more modern would make for a better experience. This is the meat and potatoes of the Force Editor and is probably not going to be done for some time. I hope I'm wrong. [:D]

Great stuff for the event editor and the new unit size is a bonus avoiding the work around of the previous releases.

Deleting equipment items probably does cause a problem (I haven't checked). But you have a huge number of spare equipment slots (now = 5000 total): Why not copy the items you need into those slots? Obviously you would have to use an equipment editor to do so (BioEd, for example).

Thanks for the screenies; much brighter and crisper, so that is good.

For me the problem with the unit DB is not adding units, but subtracting...I generally play, and would use the editor for, WWII East Front and in previous versions scrolling through the huge number of irrelevant units (Chinese infantry squads, modern APCs, Israeli Merkavas, etc.) made it really tedious to find the units I was looking for, especially without a scroll bar. Obviously, it is great to have all these units in the original database, but it would be useful if it could be filtered in some way, or at least if people could create customized databases by deleting whatever is not necessary. If there is some way to work with a subset of all available units pls let me know.

Did you read my post #8? As I suggested, just copy all the equipment items you will need into the spare slots. Then you'll have them all together in one spot.

Do you have a link to Bioed on your site Bob? I didn't see one. Maybe I missed it.`

I read it, but apparently didn't understand it, I though you were talking about adding additional items to the DB (obscure panzer variants, etc.). Your suggestion might work, but if I have to scroll through 50 pages of units every time just to get to the new units it will still be a pain. Maybe the addition of scroll bars will render the issue moot.

I have not been able to get Bio-Ed working on my W7 machine, others have had success.

Glad to know the "A" team is working on this one. Cannot wait, either way.
