The sequel of the legendary wargame with a complete graphics and interface overhaul, major new gameplay and design features such as full naval combat modelling, improved supply handling, numerous increases to scenario parameters to better support large scenarios, and integrated PBEM++.

There is also ODD found here:
http://yves.lr.pagesperso-orange.fr/ODD/ODD.htm

I can run it but have yet to actually use it. However, it is also an older program so no idea how it performs these days.

TOAWIII Equipment Editor still works with Windows 10 or 7. I'm not sure if you can download it anyplace these days. I tried Parmenio's website but it wouldn't load so it's probably no longer available. You might try to contact him. He last posted November of last year.

As for ODD, about the only thing that is still usable in a reliable fashion is the function that applies a grid to a map. I tried the oob portion and couldn't get it to load. I get an access violation. It's really strange because even though it gives me an access violation for the oob file it will still display everything in the scenario summary and in the oob editor. So it has to be reading something. I'm afraid of doing a bunch of editing just to have it blow up in my face. The force editor that comes with the game is bad enough but using ODD and having it all go wrong would not be good. It would really be nice to use ODD for making a scenario. It makes a lot more sense than the game's clunky editor.

I must admit I am quite confused. Does everything in TOAW IV could be edited through an XML editor?
Or, is the SCE format still there? If so, is there a specification somewhere of how to read and write into it i.e. SCE format?

Thanks

Been there ! If we are expected to continue providing scenarios, we might expect something that works reliably. Problem is finding someone to put it together, or to get these old programs working. It ain't me.

You can't edit the equipment database with xml. SCE files are scenario files, not really designed for editing, and have nothing to do with eqp files.

Regarding Opart Design & Debug (ODD)...

ODD was originally developed for use with Century of Warfare, which created its data files in a formatted text file. When TOAW III was first released I updated ODD to work with the xml files that it uses. As updates to TOAW III occured I noticed there were sometimes subtle changes in the xml output files. I kept up with it for awhile but eventually let it slack off as there didn't appear to be a large ODD user base remaining. I still use it occasionally to make database changes and map grids. But for the most part I do everything in the TOAW editor. It's come a long way. I am not planning at this time to update ODD for use with TOAW IV.

I can't be the only user who wants to update the "2000" DB to "2017" & beyond when this game is released.

+1
I really hope that some modders will be able to do it ! I want a modern theaters wargame, not another game to replay Barbarossa for the zillion-th time.
I want to be able to simulated modern conflicts, real or hypothetics. Ukraine, Korea, Syria, Iran... In fact a little bit like the great CMANO but turn based IGOUGO. I really hope that TOAW4 will offer something like this. But an update of the DB to 2017 is a must.

I lost the TOAW Equipment Editor when my computer crashed! Does anyone have the latest version? To big to send by email? Maybe someone could put in their Dropbox or the like?

Would be grand!

Raindem, I too use the editor, as I refreshed my memory on the game, I noticed you can't edit the equipment files with it. So that was the crux of my question. How to edit the equip files with existing older utilities. Or is there a new method I'm unaware of.

The newer versions of ODD will edit the TOAW III database. I used it extensively in the "Call to Arms" scenario. The above reference to Yves' site appears to link to an obsolete version.

As a point of reference, when Yves first created the BioEditor it was a major breakthrough. At the time there was no other way to modify the equipment database. Now, any old xml editor can do it.

Basically, Virgin Media (who now own NTL) closed down all the old free NTL webspaces (which is pretty much where I hosted everything).
I've backed the site up but being a lazy sod, I hadn't got round to setting it up on my other website - sorry :-)

I'll dig out my backup and get the stuff back on-line.

(I do drop in from time-to-time but I'd lost the will to live waiting for TOAW IV. Thankfully due to the imminent arrival said will to live has returned)

Andy

Edit: Having just logged on to my other website, it appears I must have uploaded some of this stuff at some time previously. I'll check out whether it's fully up-to-date and then post the link (probably stick it in my profile sig as well).

Edit2: One other thing to make clear is that there is more than one Equipment Editor. There is:

1. Original BioEd
2. A version of BioEd I built that removed the need to keep a copy of ACOW around.
3. An Equipment Editor I wrote from scratch.

I don't use 1 & 2 and John Fogger tells me 3 works fine with TOAW IV.

(my Scenario Viewer apparently doesn't and I applied for the Beta program earlier in the week in an attempt to address that)

I've put the Equipment Editor page up as below:

http://www.theedmistons.co.uk/toawiii/e ... ditor.html

I'll sort out the rest later. Some bits were there, some weren't.

(The page design is different from the original. My son and wife put it together for an IT BTEC course they were doing, so I decided to keep it)

@parmenio - Just to signal I have seen earlier there is may be an issue with your scenario viewer
fb.asp?m=4269587

How did you develop all these tools by the way? I mean the SCE format looks like quite obscur to me. Are you working more with XML and user will do the conversion directly in TOAW.
