Possible sub issue

Post by elmo3 »

Playing PBEM++ and my German sub in silent mode got surrounded by 6 Allied ships. All 6 attacked it getting it down to one hit point left. So my opponent moved a ship out of the way and moved another ship in to get the kill. My sub never dove once to try and get away and it never fired back once with 7 Allied ships shooting at it. WAD or bugged?

Hi Elmo,

Can you tell me for which campaign this is for and which language version as well? Also, could you tell me the strength and supply of your unit when it was attacked?

I just ask as there is of course the possibility that it didn't dive as each dive percentage chance per attack is independent of the previous dive percentage chance. It would be unlucky but certainly possible but if I have the campaign and language version I can double check to simply ensure the data is still set properly.

For the lack of firing back this might depend on the state of your unit during the attacks as a 0 counter attack could also be possible and with some bad rolls it could have missed on all 7 chances for a +1 on the attack too.

As your game has continued, have you experienced this with other similar situations or has a sub dove here and there and fired back here and there as well?

This is the full '39 campaign, English version and we were only a few turns into the game. It's a PBEM++ game so I don't have access to a save. My sub probably started the turn with a strength of about 5. No idea on supply but it was probably close to max as we had only played a few turns. It had been attacked on the previous turn and on that turn it did fire back, once I think but it did not dive that turn either. This has been the only sub/ship encounter in our game so far. The rest of my subs are cowering in the Baltic. Not going to risk them at this point after seeing this one get shredded! [;)]

Thanks and I took a look at the campaign and all the numbers seem fine for dive percentages and ASW percentages. At the start of the war the German subs only have a 20% chance to dive so it is within the realm of possibilities that you just had some bad luck.

As the war progresses, if there is a continued concern I now have the ability to inspect a turn if you give me the ChallengeID for the PBEM++ game you are playing and I'll be happy to take a look.

OK, thanks Hubert. Will send you the ID if another problem comes up.
