Tracom

Post by pontiouspilot »

I know I have seen some threads on this topic but I can't seem to locate...any directions? The manual is a little skimpy on the topic. I have never bothered with it before but in one of my games I'm getting quite a few 80+ pilots. Is it worthwhile?

Stuffed TRACOM has an increasing chance of getting your behind-the-scenes pilot schools work faster. Additional schoolers would be promoted to the next stage on the first date of the month. No increase in quality unless by weird bugs (there were some)

My take is that:
1. It is usually only useful for IJN cause a) they can scrap the bottom of schools rather quickly and b) good inflow of 80+ pilots during early war
2. It is a storage of highquality pilots for later usage in better planes.

If I remember correctly, only increments of 10 pilots raise the chance to accelerate training.
You need 10 (or a multible of it) fighter pilots to accelerate fighter pilot school training
You need 10 (or a multible of it) bomber pilots to accelerate bomber pilot school training etc
This is also per IJA or IJN

You need somewhere to stick your 80+ experience pilots and at least in TRACOMM you get some minimal results for them instead of just in general reserve.

Yeah, I can remember with the older versions of the game I'd get pilots advancing all the time as long as I had sufficient pilots in the TRACOM. At some point, intentional or not this stopped, and now its a rare event. As said above its still a place to save some of your better pilots for the 'end game'.

What I have been trying is putting some of these guys (usually two per) into my 'training groups' as sort of 'instructors' and it seems to train the real rookies up a bit faster. I decided to try this not as a whim, but because of what I read in the Pilot Addendum that is in one of the game files. It appears to me that it supports this hypothesis.

A benefit to using Tracom is you can put specialty pilots there for restaffing specialty air units.

Veterans (81+ Exp) in your training squadrons give a boost to training rates for pilots in the same squadron.

It is noted in the Pilot management addendum. The effect is smaller compared to the group exp bonus and Commanders Leadership bonus. In tests of 75 exp vs 81 exp pilots and 55 Exp vs 81 Exp used to up the group avg exp, the groups with 75 and 55 performed the same while groups with 81 Exp pilots did about 10% better.

I have not tested how varying numbers of 81 Exp pilots changes the effect. In the test I did, i think i had 6 x 81/75/55 exp pilots in groups with 20 x 35 exp pilots with 25 skill leaders. 10 groups of 26 pilots (5 x 81 vs 5 x 75/55), all at same base, multiple trials of 10 days.

The Allied player need not worry about it. I sometimes cull out top pilots from experienced units and move them to Tracom for reassignment to newer groups. That is about all. The Allied player gets a constant flow of named pilots as replacements in most all air groups-especially US fighter groups. It is more important to cull these pilots out as thought their experience level is good, they almost always come in with specific skills that need to be trained up.

Not the case in current beta. I just had several accelerations for Chinese pilots with exactly 1 pilot onin TRACOM. It is June 1, 42

Code: Select all

Accelerated training for 6 Chinese pilots from month-cycle 7
Accelerated training for 8 Chinese pilots from month-cycle 6
Accelerated training for 7 Chinese pilots from month-cycle 5

+ 1, especially for the Japanese.
