Afika Korps

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

I know there is an Afrika Korps event for the Axis. When? And what is the force mix that you get? Thanks.

Majpalmer,

You should be aware that the most recent versions of the game have changed the paramaters of the AK event somewhat from what is described in the manual.

The MPP cost and the force is the same, but the requirement for the Axis to be holding Gazala seems to have been altered the exact place of arrival varies.

I THINK the way it works now is that if the Axis says yes to the DAK but the Allies hold Gazala and/or Benghazi (as they did historically at that point in the war), then the DAK arrives at Tripoli instead of the area around Benghazi.

It's a nice change IMO, because it
A) gives the Allies an incentive to try to hit the Italians in Libya before the Germans arrive, and
B) doesn't prevent the DAK from arriving if the Brits have only taken Gazala (which I think was the case under the old rules

Sorry for the truncated post...meant to finish by saying that under the old rules the British really had no reason to even try for Tobruk, knowing the DAK would arrive and clobber them come December 1940. I think it's more balanced this way.

But others with more knowledge of the game mechanics might wish to weigh in.

I'm just curious about what happens if the Axis say No to the DAK. Shouldn't they be allowed to build those units for the same cost in Germany for example? Opinions?

Yea. I thought that too. If the DAK does not deploy in Africa, there should be an
(other) choice. Deploy elsewhere? MPPs gained?, Right now I see no reason not to deploy
them, even if I just transport them right to Russia.

There's been a lot of debate about what should happen if the Axis refuses the DAK event. Currently, they get nothing if they say no. It's one of those "non-decision Decision Events," (like the Norway invasion) meant to give the game more historical flavor. Without it, the Germans would probably never deploy in Libya except possibly a few units to delay the British after they stomp the Italians and threaten to take Tripoli.

Hi Leadwieght

I'm not sure that the Manual is out of date, as there are six different Decision Events for the DAK, and the relevant one will be presented according to the situation.

Glad to see you like the changes to it, a lot of work went into these Decisions! [:)]

Hi Bill,

Damn, you're right! The various contingencies were there all the time! [:o] I have been looking at the online version of the Manual using control-F to search for key words, but then I cracked open my bound copy and there they all were. I do apologize for spreading inaccurate info.
Nice work.

No worries at all, and I can fully understand why you'd stop at the first encounter of the key words, I would have done too. [:)]
