Bacon Stats Viewer

Post by RogerBacon »

[Update] Bacon Mod 1.35 is out. Bacon Mod 1.35 includes support for Bacon Stats Viewer.

So you beat the AI (again) but BY HOW MUCH did you beat it? Or if you lost (shame, shame) WHEN did the game turn against you.
Now you will know. Introducing the "Bacon Stats Viewer".

I've always liked in the Civilization games where you could view your progress over time. DWU is good at showing you the current situation but it doesn't capture much in the way of history.
With the Bacon Stats Viewer you will be able to track EIGHT (maybe more added later) stats.

Technical details:
The Bacon Stats Viewer will be a desktop application that will load in an XML file that is exported from an upcoming version of the Bacon Mod.
The user will be able to select the time interval to export (default is 90 days, or 4 times per game year).

The Bacon Stats Viewer is finished.

Of course, you can't actually use it yet in your games because it uses two XML files dumped from the latest (as of yet unreleased) version of the Bacon mod. I should be able to get the next release out this weekend or next week.

I wanted to release the stats viewer first along with two sample copies of the XML files (one for Empires, one for Pirate Empires) so that anyone who might be interested in making their own (better) viewer could get a jump on doing so.

The way I use the viewer is to have it open in another monitor and simply hit the refresh button when I want to see how I'm doing.

The background image is chosen randomly from all the images in the "Images" folder. So, if you really like one you can delete the rest. Or you can add any image you want.
Mousing over the data points will tell you the name of the empire and the value at that point. I included that for people who might have difficulty differentiating some colors.

Thanks RogerBacon for this mod, it really breathes a sense of life and movement into the game. I wonder if it's possible to make the stats viewer only reveal empires you've encountered? I really like the feeling of anticipation of what's out there before new empires are revealed, and I'm finding myself having to wait to use the stats viewer until I've encountered everyone. In games of 20+ empires, this takes a while.

Thanks again for the amazing tool.

I do not know if doing the above it is technically possible [I'm not a modder myself], but I agree with "drdru7029" that seeing in advance the stats of the Empires that one has not yet encountered can ruin that precious "feeling of anticipation" that is so important for immersion in the game.

RogerBacon: another though challenge for you.. [:D]
