How best to attack infantry in jungle?

Hey all,

Doing a PBEM with a friend and some AI's and an AI has entrenched himself in jungle tiles. No way around it, no way to attack from three sides, no weaknesses. How best to attack that position?

Can't make para's/aircraft yet (stone age start, expensive research). I do have Artillery and Light Tanks.

Even after multiple rounds of intense Art fire (last attack 800 str. points worth to maximize org loss) and then an attack of 8 Lght tanks/40 inf they still won't break. To clarify, first attack 100 str art, then second attack 700 str art, then 100 str tanks and finally a fourth attack with another 100 str tanks so that first attacks didn't get the overstack penalty and accepted the overstack penalty on the other attacks.

Tanks wont help much in Jungle. As to that I wasnt aware tanks could even enter jungle?

Was along a road, so they could [:)] but didn't help... was however the best option i could see giving the tech i currently have... cost me some tanks to find out it wasn't the perfect option! [:D]

Artillery is best followed by combined arms. Infantry isn't very good at killing anything really.

I'm not exactly sure how artillery attacks are conducted, although I suspect that they are very similar to "standard" attacks, but with a few steps left out, such as counter attack, etc. If so, then jungle has a 0.25 times terrain multiplier for tanks and artillery. Meaning that they have little power. This is also true for aircraft as well. One useful attack against infantry is level bombers, as they have a better attack power than dive bombers. On the other hand, it turns out that basttleships, which can do artillery, have a terrain modifier 0f 1 for jungle, so I suspect that their artillery works better in jungle and forest.

The best troops are SMG, as they have a 1.25 multiplier in jungle terrain.
