Steam reinstalls game every time I try to play

Post by feuerkuh »

Game starts up fine first time I run it. After closing the game and launcher, steam still thinks the game is running, even after restarting steam. Cannot run the game, get error "program is already running". Have to restart computer, start up steam, and then steam no longer sees the game installed (local files are still present on computer). I have to re-download and re-install the game every time I want to start it up again.

Please try first Step 1 and if the issue still persists try Step 2.

Step 1: Run the game as Administrator

- Right-click the game in your Steam Library.
- Go to Properties, then to the Local Files tab.
- Click Browse Local Files.
- Locate the game executable (the application file).
- Right-click it and go to Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab.
- Check the "Run this program as an administrator" box.
- Click Apply. Having done this, restart Steam and try launching the game again.

Step 2: Run Steam as Administrator

- Navigate your Steam installation file (By default, it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam).
- Right-click the Steam executable.
- Follow the above steps to set it to Run as Administrator.
- Restart Steam.

While I don't like Steam I have a few Steam games because that is the only way they are available. This may not help your problem, but I have found that it can help to always exit Steam after "closing" a game. Steam apparently continues to stay open even after you close the game and it looks like you are back to your desktop. Go to steam program on your pc and at the bottom should be "exit steam". Seems to help me a bit. Other than that I do find that sometimes you do have to restart the computer, just seems to be one of those Steam things.

Although game should still be there, I haven't had to reinstall games. When I have a choice to buy Steam version or Matrix/Slitherine version I always get the company version. Personal choice, many love Steam so I hope this doesn't start the usual back and forth on the thread about the merits of Steam.
