Leaving the manual on makes Steam think the game is running

Leaving the manual on makes Steam think the game is running and won't let me run it again till I close the pdf file. Is there any way to fix that?
I need ten females for each male...

copy the manual to another folder, so you have the one in the steam folder and the new one, open the new one then run the game, sorted
