Guadalcanal Scenario Question/Ground Troops

Post by TheBug67 »

I am slowly playing the stock Guadalcanal scenario to learn the game as the US against the AI and have stumbled across a question I couldn't find an answer for. I have landed on Guadalcanal and taken Lunga, reinforced it with some support troops and a 3rd Marine regiment. So I was looking to advance on Tassafaronga, but when I select a Marine regiment in either Combat or Move mode and try to set Tassafaronga as the destination hex it says "Unable to move to that hex, move not allowed".

What would be preventing me from moving the unit?

Silly question, but are you sure you're clicking on the right hex? From the description, you may be trying to march into Iron Bottom Bay [8D]

I am pretty sure, I tried it multiple times. I'll double check that tonight when I fire up the game. Thanks for the reply.

Are you running current betas?

Have you destroyed all enemy LCUs in the hex?
If you took the base, but didn't kill off the enemy troops, the Japanese may still control the hexside.
Use the 'W' key to display hexside control.

Finally, there is sometimes a bug in selecting hex targets for movement. Try clicking in different locations within the hex to get around it.

Not sure if that bug was addressed in beta patches, but the betas are the closest thing to official patches the game will ever see and all veterans here use and swear by them.

I've had similar problems to Hans (different locations & different scenarios)

I write it off as a dud commander and try another day or another unit.

Do you control the hexside you're trying to cross?

Maybe....

Has happen to me before at different hexes at different times, it is just a mouse coordinate foible.

Pick move command, then move mouse into destination without "touching" anything(icons), then click.

Find the "sweetspot" of the hex[;)]

Thank you all for the help! Confirmed I controlled the hexside, so it just came down to the "sweetspot" in the hex. I was clicking on the flag icon in the center of the hex each time when it wasn't working. Moved off the icons, to a clear spot and it worked.
