Idea: Spain as an Italy minor

Aka Spain axis-allies leaning going toward Italy instead of Germany.

-It makes wether Spain joins not as big of a deal for Germany, income wise
-It limits Spain's army possibility for expansion and reflect its more independent Power status.
-The decision DE 603 – Germany: Entice Franco to Enter the War? could stay, and would allow Spain to join Germany instead of Italy. This tangentially gives an extra benefit to reject the installation of Vichy should that option be sought.

Italy had been the main backer during the Civil War and the two country were close so that wouldn't be too off from left field.

Just food for thought.

I have tried this before, the result was that Italy had too many MPP and no longer felt like a liability.

I think the easier solution would be to modify Spain statistics to better reflect the real potential (or rather lack of potential) of Spain.

There are already other easy ways to raise Italy income if an Axis player wishes to do so.

Dunno, for me it makes both Spain and Italy liabilities. Less tech for Spain, less resource to refit armies, same low national morale pool.

Italy might be a bit better off as long Spain doesn't have to do anything with its armies. I'm thinking your spanish gambit in your current AAR would have totally worked if Italian lira were needed to reenforce spanish armies...

There should be a greater opportunity cost involved for germany, bumping the trade with germany from 5 to 40mpp (essentially the value of the two spanish mines). If it joins, it joins as an Italy minor but then Germany loses out on the trade income. It's more money total for the axis but since it's Italy money so it's not as useful.

I am not looking for a gamey workaround. I am suggesting some fixes that will make sense from a historical perspective.
