Could not find 79975.dat

Post by nnason »

Running latest Win 10. Have both 1.10 public and 1.10.1 beta resident. Beta was installed second. Doing 3 games two on beta from 1.09.10 moved to newest beta.

Games doing fine except for occasionally having to reboot as it gets hung up trying to connect. See my other post on this.

I played turns on both public and beta. I then installed Community content from here:
http://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Strategi ... -v1.10.zip
This was my first download of cmty content so I didn't have to delete old cmty content "campaigns" folder.

I played a turn or two from two different scenarios.

Woke up this morning to play turns my friend in NZ had played while I was asleep. I started public and I get "could not find 79975.dat" error message.

On beta server I get error message "could not find 8396.dat"

And in trying to see if reloading exe would fix the problem, I got into the hang-ups on both executables while trying to load PBEMs.

I fixed my problem of missing dat files.
I had had the missing 8396.dat error before. And I had kept a copy of the file. So I went into:
"user name/ AppData/local/My Games/Strategic Command WWII - War in Europe/PBEM++"
thinking I could copy the file like I did the first time. What did I find but two directories under "Strategic Command WWII - War in Europe/PBEM++" one with my user name which was empty and a new one with my email address full of dat files. I copied the dat files under my email address to the empty directory with my user name and IT Works.

All fixed.

I have seen other players posting this issue and you all giving the same solution. So this is a semi chronic problem. Suggest you develop an easy to implement solution.

With the latest build this should be less of an issue as I have put something together for added stability and for the next update I'll have some auto-backups and handling of missing DAT files as well.

Note, not all DAT files are equal as they are version dependent and while it may have worked for you in this case there is the possibility of differing data as the campaigns are changing over time.

The auto-backup system I'm working on will handle this though.
