Production Changes for Resource Routing?

Post by Omnius »

I'm wondering how the production form was changed to allow for an Improved resource routing routine that minimizes convoy usage. Did the change involve no longer requiring resources to be shipped from a country's capital? Can the CW now ship oil from Indonesia to China directly? If so that would be a great improvement! I'm still waiting for oil tankers, that will really improve the resource system.

There's been no change to the form that I can think of. The changes are in the code that supports what you are trying to accomplish with the production form. I don't recall a requirement to ship from a country's capital in any MWiF version, although early versions might have given that impression due to the initial problems with production.

Unfortunately, there is still a problem with the program forcing the CW to ship resources to China from England or Canada instead of the Burmese or Malayan resources.

The default behavior can be over-ridden, but it takes some work and patience and often needs to be repeated to stick and possibly again in future Production phases.

Should there perhaps be a Resource Allocation form that is raised on creation or modification of a lending deal?
Then we could decide there and then which resources to send to whom.
Of course this could be modified in the resource planning stage as per normal.

There is. If you select a resource and select trade, you can choose the country to which that particular resource has to go.

I like this idea a lot.[&o][&o] No one has mentioned it before.

But I will need to think about it for quite a while[8|] before even beginning to design how it might be implemented.

Steven,
Please make sure to give us a decent explanation of any kind of rule change like you mentioned in this last official update. If you change how resources get routed then please tell us how the new function works, don't make us guess like you did on this. Getting CW oil to China is a real problem, one reason I've been so vocal about getting oil tankers implemented ASAP. It sure would be nice to not have to ship oil from England to China when there is a much closer oilfield to ship from. One problem with the rule that one must ship resources from a capital, definitely know this is done for Build Points.

pauldernyk,
There's definitely a rule about having to ship Build Points and I think other resources from a capital, why do you think the program always annoyingly reroutes CW oil from Indonesia to ship from the capital in Britain? Perhaps this is a program error which could be fixed.

This is RAW:

Transport
During the production step, you transport the promised build points to
any city or major port in the recipient’s home country (Britain’s in the
case of the Commonwealth). You do this in exactly the same way as
you transport resources (see 13.6.1), except that you can also transport
an additional 2 build points to the capital and 1 to each other city and
major port cumulative, each turn (e.g. you could transport 6 build
points to London each turn; 2 for being the capital, 3 for the factories
and 1 for the major port in the hex). Promised build points that can’t
be transported are lost.
The total number of Lend Lease build points from all sources that can
be transported to the capital, a city, or a factory is the amount that can
be received there, not the amount that can be sent by individual major
powers.

I don't know how MWIF is now behaving where traded build points are concerned after Steve made all the changes in production planning, however, in the past there were bugs where build points where not delivered by the program, when according to the rules they should be delivered.

The factory where you produce a build point is the starting point. MWIF usually sends build points out of the capital, but you should be able to manually change the factory producing the traded build point at the production planning screen of the major power sending the build point.

The same can be done for resources send over in trade.

Without a Default/Override setting, the program uses build points from the sending country's capital to fulfill trade agreements.

But you can change that by left clicking on a Build Point in the Resources list of the Production Planning form. A pop-up form asks if you want to change the place of origination. Saying Yes brings up a list of all the eligible factories.

I have used this to get Build Points to Free France from San Paulo in South America, and to the USSR through the Persian Gulf from India.

There are limits though. The number of build points produced in the factory limits how many can be sent from a factory. So if the production multiple is 0.75, only 1 BP can be sent from any 1 factory. But if the PM is 1.5, then 2 BPs can be sent from each factory.
