New UI and Stuff

Post by solops »

The lack of pop-up info as one mouses over control-icons is disconcerting. Not knowing what all those buttons do can be jarring, though experience will not doubt alleviate this. A lot of stuff that should be intuitive...is not so much. I still have not found out how to process a turn when I am finished other than going up to the drop-down menu. There is no obvious "End Turn" button that I could find. Someone, please tell me where it is and how stupid I am. I do not remember doing some simple things like this to be quite so difficult to find in TOAW 1,2 or 3.
Other than that, improvements to the game are overwhelming and almost all good, as far as a twenty minute look can tell me.

Actually, if you have the status bar on the bottom open, which is on by default, you will see the description of the buttons there as well, same as what would show in tool tip.

There is a tooltip, it has a 1 second delay IIRC, which can be changed in 'Player Options' in the top-bar "Play" menu.

The tooltip you reference will display to the upper and right of mouse pointer. This means it bleeds off the display and you can't see it.

But its also shown in the status box for those who don't know what buttons mean on UI, which eventually, after play experience, becomes not necessary.

Unless you have multiple monitors, the tooltip should always be on the screen. If you have multiple monitors, it will display on the other monitor.

I do notice if the mouse if far to the right on-screen, part of the tooltip will be hidden outside the screen, so for instance tooltips for buttons on the *right* side where the buttons are located, are not always visible or easy to read.

Floaty tooltips are hard to fix in code though, since you'd need logic to place the tooltip elsewhere if there's no space for it. A better solution would be to display the tooltip for buttons in the info bar at the bottom of the screen - like they actually are [:)]

Yes, that is true, which I validated. But how many folks have additional monitors? Normally its full screen on single where the tool tip for the UI bottons is not readable.

However, the UI designers also mimick the text to the status bar. Exceptional consideration and covers the issue.

Yes it is not ideal and we'll work on fixing it.

However, the tooltip for buttons also immediately displays on the bottom of the screen on the green bar there.

Agh....that is what I said. As I mentioned several times, and even thanked the developers for doing it. I'm not sure this needs "a fix", not something that bothers me anyway since we have status bar.

The UI overall is exceptional as it is.
